England Through to EURO Semis
The Three Lions have qualified for the European Championship semi-finals by beating Switzerland in a penalty shootout yesterday and will now face Netherlands for a spot in the final in Berlin.
It was 1-1 after 120 minutes and England scored with all five spot kicks, the decisive one courtesy of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. For Switzerland, it was Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji who failed to convert his chance, seeing his weak effort parried away by Jordan Pickford.
The semi-final against Netherlands will take place in Dortmund on Wednesday.
EPL Transfers
After the expiry of his contract with Fulham, Bobby De Cordova-Reid has signed a three-year contract with Leicester. The 31-year-old is now the Foxes’ first signing this summer. (Leicester official announcement)
Brighton have completed the signing of Feyenoord defensive midfielder Mats Wieffer. He joins the Seagulls on a five-year contract. (Brighton official announcement)
Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is reportedly close to leaving the club and joining Girona on a cut-price deal valued at just £420,000, according to Relevo. However, Fabrizio Romano mentions that the fee might be closer to £5 million, based on appearances in the coming season. He initially joined the Red Devils in 2020 for £40 million.
But Manchester United are reportedly set to welcome Joshua Zirkzee to the club this summer, as they have agreed personal terms with him. Now negotiations with Bologna are taking place to determine how the £34 million release clause will be paid. (CaughtOffside)
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Atalanta might prefer selling Teun Koopmeiners to a club outside of Italy. The clubs he has been linked with most are Liverpool and Juventus.
German publication Bild claims that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo and might convince his club to push through for a move this summer.
Journalist Alan Nixon tells us that Chelsea and Newcastle will both try to bring Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford back to the Premier League after the Clarets’ relegation at the end of last season.
