EPL Players at Copa America 2024 – Day 6

Two more games took place in the USA, with Canada overcoming Peru and Argentina already booking passage to the quarter-finals by beating Chile. As part of our EPLNews Copa America report, here is how Premier League players involved in the tournament performed.

Peru 0-1 Canada

Canada got their first three points at the tournament, and their first-ever Copa America win, in a relatively uneventful game. The only goal was scored by Jonathan David in the 73rd minute.

The match featured no Premier League players.

Chile 0-1 Argentina

The reigning Copa America champions have qualified for the quarter-finals with a game to spare after a narrow win against Chile. The final score does not reflect just how dominant Argentina were, shooting on target eight times and accumulating an xG of 2.87 to completely overwhelm the Chileans in New Jersey.

The only goal of the match came in the closing stages, as Lautaro Martinez found a cool finish in the 88th minute.

The Premier League was well represented in this game, with eight Argentinian players plying their trade for clubs in England’s top division. The likes of Emiliano Martinez, Alexis Mac Allister, Julian Alvarez and others were in the starting XI, while Giovani Lo Celso and Gonzalo Montiel came on as the second half unfolded.

Out of the EPL contingent, Tottenham’s Cristian Romero performed best, keeping things tight at the back and looking to offer a solid base to pass the ball out of defence for the entire game.
