EPL Transfer News: Rodrygo, Spurs, Paqueta and More
Rodrygo’s Future: Spurs Now Frontrunners?
Rodrygo has recently drawn considerable attention, particularly from Premier League clubs. Arsenal and Liverpool have both expressed interest in the Real Madrid winger, but it is Tottenham Hotspur who now appear to be leading the race for his signature. The likelihood of a deal has increased following developments over the weekend.
Son Heung-min announced his departure from Tottenham Hotspur, which has created an urgent need to reinforce the left wing before the transfer window closes. According to Diario AS, the funds freed up by Son’s exit could enable Spurs to finalise a move for Rodrygo.
Nevertheless, a deal is far from guaranteed. Real Madrid are reportedly open to selling the Brazilian, but Rodrygo himself remains unconvinced about a move to north London. In fact, his preferred destination is Liverpool.
Unfortunately for Rodrygo, Liverpool’s interest has cooled for now. The Merseyside club have shifted their focus towards Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. Should the Swedish forward complete his move to Anfield, Rodrygo’s hopes of joining Liverpool would be dashed.
Benjamin Šeško Bid Rejected by Leipzig
Newcastle United made headlines with a £65.5 million offer, plus £4.3 million in add-ons, for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško. The bid was turned down by the Bundesliga side, who labelled it as “insufficient”, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein and Seb Stafford-Bloor.
Interestingly, Leipzig themselves had previously encouraged suitors to table bids starting at £65.5 million plus add-ons. One reason for the rejection may be Manchester United’s involvement in the chase, as Leipzig could be holding out for better terms.
Although Manchester United have not submitted an official bid, Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer confirmed ongoing discussions, especially after Šeško was ruled out of their friendly defeat to Atalanta.
Tottenham Renew Interest in Randal Kolo Muani
Tottenham Hotspur have rekindled their interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani. Spurs initially attempted to sign the France international on loan in January, but Juventus won the race during the winter window.
Kolo Muani endured a poor first half of the season but rediscovered his form in Turin, netting 10 goals and contributing three assists. Now back at PSG following his loan spell, The Times reports that Tottenham are again interested.
However, Spurs face stiff competition. Juventus are keen on a permanent deal, and Kolo Muani has expressed a desire to return to the Serie A giants.
Al Nassr Eyes Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has emerged as a summer target for Al Nassr. According to A BOLA, manager Jorge Jesus is keen to secure Fernandes’ services. A reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo, his Portugal teammate, is thought to appeal to the 30-year-old.
Rasmus Højlund Rejects Leipzig Swap
Manchester United are exploring ways to secure Benjamin Šeško, including a potential swap deal involving Rasmus Højlund. However, Alex Crook reports that Højlund has no interest in joining RB Leipzig, despite the German club’s willingness to consider him coming in, even in a loan arrangement.
AC Milan Target Darwin Núñez
Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez is the top attacking target for AC Milan, Gianluca Di Marzio reveals. However, the high cost of the deal poses a major obstacle, casting doubt on whether Milan can finalise an agreement for the Uruguayan forward.
Napoli Pursues Federico Chiesa
Federico Chiesa, currently with Liverpool, has re-entered Napoli’s radar following their failure to sign Dan Ndoye, who opted for Nottingham Forest. This is according to Corriere dello Sport, which highlights Napoli’s continued search for an attacking addition.
Inter in Talks Over Christopher Nkunku
Inter Milan have reportedly initiated discussions with Chelsea over forward Christopher Nkunku. L’Équipe states that although talks have been held, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is reluctant to part with the Frenchman after being impressed by his recent performances.
Manchester City Back in for Paquetá
Manchester City are preparing to revive their interest in West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paquetá. Globo Esporte reports that the Brazilian has been cleared of betting-related charges, making a transfer possible. A deal could range between £50 million and £60 million.
Brentford Target Arsenal’s Trossard
Brentford are making an ambitious move for Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard. As reported by FootballTransfers, the Belgian is reportedly open to leaving the Emirates for the right opportunity. The Bees hope to present a compelling project to entice him.
Spurs Drop Ramsey Interest
After missing out on Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, Tottenham Hotspur have now ruled out a move for Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey. This is per a report by Paul O’Keefe, who claims Spurs will be focusing their efforts elsewhere.
Sunderland Eye Leipzig’s Loïs Openda
Sunderland are reportedly eyeing a bold move for RB Leipzig striker Loïs Openda. Florian Plettenberg suggests that the Championship club is keen on the Belgian forward. However, uncertainty surrounding Benjamin Šeško and Xavi Simons might prevent Leipzig from allowing Openda to leave this summer.
