EPL Transfer News: Isak, Simons, West Ham and More
Newcastle United Lay Down the Law on Alexander Isak’s Future
Newcastle United have reportedly made it clear to striker Alexander Isak that he will be required to resume training with the team if no acceptable offer for his transfer arrives in the coming weeks.
Isak, who missed pre-season due to what was described as a thigh injury, has been training separately from the main squad at the request of manager Eddie Howe. Howe has stated he does not want the Sweden international’s current stance to have a negative impact on the rest of the players.
While Isak is believed to be keen on securing a record-breaking transfer to Liverpool, Newcastle officials have communicated that he will not be sold this summer unless they receive a suitable bid. Chronicle Live reports that the door to an exit is not completely shut, but Isak has been told he must act professionally until the club receives what they consider an acceptable offer.
Liverpool’s opening bid of £110 million has already been rejected, with Newcastle valuing Isak at £150 million. With his contract running until 2028, the Magpies face little urgency to sell. Howe has publicly expressed hope that Isak could still return to the fold, despite claims the player has shown “no interest” in representing Newcastle again.
Rasmus Højlund’s Stance Shifts Amid AC Milan Loan Links
Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund, who recently stated his commitment to staying at Old Trafford, is now reportedly “open” to joining AC Milan. After a lengthy search for a new forward, United completed the £73.8 million signing of Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig. The 22-year-old will join Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in Ruben Amorim’s attacking setup, leaving Højlund’s future uncertain.
Reports suggest United have already agreed a loan deal with Milan, going against Højlund’s initial wish to remain at the club. The Manchester Evening News claims the Dane has changed his position and is now receptive to the move, feeling “unhappy” with how the club appears to be forcing him out.
This shift comes just under two weeks after he declared, “My plan is very clear, that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens.” However, his playing time has already diminished — just 18 minutes against Everton and an unused substitute role in the friendly against Fiorentina as United completed their pre-season schedule.
RB Leipzig Eye Christopher Nkunku Return in Potential Chelsea Swap
Bundesliga side RB Leipzig are reportedly exploring a move to bring back former star Christopher Nkunku as part of a deal with Chelsea for Xavi Simons.
Leipzig value Simons, 22, at approximately £60 million but also want Nkunku included in the arrangement alongside monetary compensation, according to The Telegraph. The exact financial structure is unclear, but it could allow Chelsea to part ways with a player manager Enzo Maresca appears willing to let go.
Chelsea signed Nkunku from Leipzig in June 2023 for £52 million following two prolific Bundesliga seasons, where he netted 36 goals and provided 17 assists between 2021 and 2023.
