Premier League Recap: Liverpool Finally Win Again, Arsenal, Fulham and Others Shine
Liverpool 2–0 Aston Villa
Liverpool ended their five-match domestic losing streak with a 2–0 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield — their first Premier League win since September. Morgan Rogers almost put Villa ahead early, striking the post after linking up with Ollie Watkins. Liverpool responded with efforts from Dominik Szoboszlai and Andrew Robertson, but it was Mohamed Salah who broke the deadlock just before half-time. A high press forced Emiliano Martínez into an error, and Salah capitalised to notch his 250th goal for the Reds.
Villa looked lively after the break through Evann Guessand, but Ryan Gravenberch doubled Liverpool’s lead before the hour after Alexis Mac Allister’s pass deflected past Martínez. Despite late pressure, including a missed Ross Barkley chance, Liverpool secured a vital win to halt their slump, while Villa suffered their first league defeat since August.
Tottenham 0–1 Chelsea
Chelsea claimed a fifth straight win over Tottenham Hotspur with a 1–0 triumph, moving level on points in the Premier League table. The early stages were disrupted by Lucas Bergvall’s concussion, and the game settled into a midfield battle. Moisés Caicedo powered through Spurs’ defence in the 34th minute before setting up João Pedro for a simple finish.
Pedro could have scored more before the break, while Mohammed Kudus’ effort forced a fine save from Robert Sánchez in first-half stoppage time. Chelsea dominated after the interval, with Enzo Fernández and Reece James missing chances and Guglielmo Vicario denying Pedro Neto twice. Spurs’ lifeless display extended their home winless run to four games, while Chelsea’s dominance in N17 continued with their sixth victory in seven visits.
Brighton 3–0 Leeds
Brighton & Hove Albion eased to a 3–0 win over Leeds United, who have now lost nine of their last ten away league games. Danny Welbeck opened the scoring in the 11th minute after a slick move involving Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer. Brighton controlled the rain-soaked first half, with Welbeck and Minteh going close again. Leeds, meanwhile, failed to register a shot on target before half-time.
The Seagulls remained in control after the break, and Minteh’s brilliant wing play set up Diego Gómez for 2–0. Six minutes later, Gómez grabbed his second after Georginio Rutter dispossessed Jayden Bogle and squared for an easy finish. Brighton are now unbeaten in nine home league matches and have never lost to Leeds in seven Primeira Liga meetings.
Burnley 0–2 Arsenal
Arsenal extended their dominance over promoted sides with a 2–0 win at Burnley, marking 24 wins from their last 25 such fixtures. The Gunners struck early when Gabriel nodded a corner back across goal for Viktor Gyökeres to head home. Bukayo Saka twice forced saves from Martin Dúbravka before Declan Rice doubled the lead, heading in from Leandro Trossard’s perfect cross.
Burnley struggled to create chances, their best coming in the 73rd minute when Florentino headed over from close range. Ethan Nwaneri almost added a third for Arsenal late on as Mikel Arteta’s side maintained control. The victory stretched Arsenal’s lead at the top to seven points, while Burnley’s two-match winning run came to an end.
Crystal Palace 2–0 Brentford
Crystal Palace returned to winning ways with a 2–0 victory over Brentford at Selhurst Park, extending their unbeaten home run to 11 league games. Jean-Philippe Mateta opened the scoring, heading home after Jefferson Lerma’s assist. The Bees came close to equalising through Ismaïla Sarr before half-time, but their hopes faded six minutes into the second half when Nathan Collins diverted Lerma’s long throw into his own net.
Sarr later hit the post as Palace pushed for a third, while Brentford created little, forcing only one notable save from Dean Henderson. The result marked Brentford’s fourth away defeat in six, while Palace celebrated a third win in nine top-flight meetings between the sides.
Fulham 3–0 Wolves
Fulham snapped a four-match losing run with a convincing 3–0 victory over bottom-side Wolves, who remain winless this season. Ryan Sessegnon opened the scoring inside nine minutes after capitalising on Santiago Bueno’s failed interception. Wolves’ woes deepened when Emmanuel Agbadou was sent off late in the first half for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.
Harry Wilson doubled Fulham’s lead just after the hour, sweeping in a rebound from Sander Berge’s blocked shot. A third came when Sessegnon’s cross was turned into his own net by Yerson Mosquera. Samuel Chukwueze later struck the post as Fulham cruised to a first win since September, while Wolves slumped to a 14-match winless league run.
Nottingham Forest 2–2 Manchester United
Nottingham Forest’s winless run stretched to nine matches after a 2–2 draw with Manchester United at the City Ground. The visitors dominated early, with Benjamin Šeško missing two clear chances before Casemiro’s header gave United a deserved lead from a contentious corner.
Forest responded after the break with two goals in 92 seconds — Morgan Gibbs-White’s looping header followed by Nicolò Savona’s finish after poor marking. Bruno Fernandes hit the post before Amad Diallo’s late volley rescued a point for United. Murillo’s goal-line block denied Amad a winner as United’s away struggles continued, with just one victory in ten on the road.
