Premier League Internationals Who Impressed for Their Countries This Month

The October international break saw several Premier League stars shine brightly for their respective nations. From goal-scoring midfielders to record-breaking forwards, these players made headlines with standout performances on the global stage.

Mikel Merino – Spain

Mikel Merino’s red-hot form for Spain continued as the Arsenal midfielder scored twice in their commanding 4-0 victory over Bulgaria in Valladolid.

Starting the match for La Roja, the 29-year-old bagged a superb brace of headers, showcasing his aerial ability and attacking instincts. Despite facing competition for his club place this season, Merino’s performances for the European champions have made him undroppable at international level.

His latest exploits take his tally to six goals in just four appearances for Spain — an incredible run that highlights his growing influence in midfield. Perhaps Mikel Arteta’s long-held belief in Merino’s attacking prowess as a potential centre-forward isn’t far off the mark after all.

Cody Gakpo – Netherlands

Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo silenced his critics with an outstanding international break, reaffirming his value to the Dutch national side.

In a dominant 4-0 win over Malta, Gakpo converted two penalties with composure and supplied an assist for Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. His clinical finishing took his international goal tally to 18, underlining his consistent productivity for the Oranje.

Just three days later, Gakpo was on target again, netting his third goal of the break as the Netherlands cruised to another 4-0 win, this time over Finland. The winger’s sharp form for his country could be exactly what he needs to reignite his Premier League campaign.

Erling Haaland – Norway

Erling Haaland once again demonstrated why he’s one of world football’s most lethal finishers, inspiring Norway to a resounding 5-0 triumph over Israel.

The Manchester City striker hit a stunning hat-trick after earlier missing a twice-taken penalty, propelling Norway to the top of Group I and keeping their 2026 World Cup dream alive. His heroics mean the Norwegians are now guaranteed at least a play-off spot, with Haaland’s goalscoring brilliance giving them a real shot at qualifying for their first World Cup since 1998.

Aged just 25, Haaland’s record of 51 goals in 46 international caps is truly remarkable — a testament to his relentless consistency and clinical edge in front of goal.

Mohammed Kudus – Ghana

Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus played a decisive role as Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup with back-to-back wins this month.

In the emphatic 5-0 victory over the Central African Republic, Kudus showcased his creative flair by assisting Mohammed Salisu’s opener. He then delivered when it mattered most, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win against Comoros to seal The Black Stars’ place in next summer’s tournament.

Kudus’ influence continues to grow both domestically and internationally. Since his summer move to Spurs, he has impressed with his work rate, versatility and eye for goal — qualities that were on full display throughout this international window.

Estevao Willian – Brazil

Teenage sensation Estevao Willian carried his impressive club momentum into Brazil’s camp after netting his first Chelsea goal in a dramatic win over Liverpool before the break.

The 18-year-old winger dazzled for the Selecao in a 5-0 friendly victory over South Korea, scoring twice and linking up superbly with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo. His fearless dribbling and intelligent movement drew widespread praise, as he continued to showcase why he’s regarded as one of Brazil’s brightest young prospects.

Although still developing, Estevao’s performances have put him firmly in contention for a spot in Brazil’s World Cup squad next summer — a remarkable achievement for a player still in his teens.
