Premier League Recap: Brentford Cruise Past Lifeless Hammers
West Ham 0-2 Brentford
Brentford claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium, recording their seventh win in nine Premier League meetings with the Hammers. The result also marked Brentford’s first away points of the season, while West Ham continued their miserable home run with a fourth consecutive league defeat at home — a first in their top-flight history.
The match began with a subdued atmosphere due to a fan boycott, though West Ham initially showed intent. Jarrod Bowen went close from a tight angle, but Brentford quickly took control. Kevin Schade hit the side netting early and twice threatened with headers, while Dango Ouattara and Igor Thiago also came close — the latter striking the crossbar after a deflected cross from Michael Kayode.
The Bees kept pressing, and Alphonse Areola had to deny Mikkel Damsgaard and Thiago in quick succession. The breakthrough arrived in the 43rd minute when a pass split the Hammers’ defence, allowing Thiago to sneak the ball over the line despite Areola’s touch. The Brazilian thought he had doubled the lead moments later, only to be flagged narrowly offside.
Nuno Espírito Santo introduced three defenders at the break, but the changes failed to spark improvement. Crysencio Summerville shot wide, while Tomáš Souček’s effort was blocked by Sepp van den Berg at the other end. Schade rattled the bar again, and Bowen wasted another chance as West Ham’s frustrations grew.
Brentford remained in control, with Areola again saving from Thiago before Keane Lewis-Potter curled wide. West Ham’s evening worsened when Konstantinos Mavropanos limped off injured, leaving them with 10 men. Brentford made the advantage count in stoppage time as substitute Mathias Jensen slotted home to seal the points.
For Brentford, it was a commanding performance full of energy and precision, while West Ham’s woes deepened — still searching for their first Premier League win at home this season.
