Premier League Recap: Chelsea Denied, Spurs Climb, Arsenal Cruise and More
Brentford 2-2 Chelsea
Chelsea were denied victory at the Gtech Community Stadium as substitute Fabio Carvalho struck a dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser for Brentford. The 23-year-old bundled home from Kevin Schade’s long throw, just minutes after coming on.
The Bees had led through Schade’s composed 35th-minute finish following Jordan Henderson’s long pass. Chelsea’s response came after the break, with substitute Cole Palmer volleying in just after the hour. Late on, fellow substitute Alejandro Garnacho set up Moises Caicedo, who drilled past Caoimhin Kelleher in the 85th minute to turn the match in Chelsea’s favour.
But Carvalho’s late strike ensured Brentford earned a share of the spoils. Chelsea remain fifth, while Brentford sit 12th.
West Ham 0-3 Tottenham
Tottenham claimed a commanding win at West Ham, moving level on points with leaders Arsenal. Pape Matar Sarr’s header opened the scoring early in the second half before Tomas Soucek’s 54th-minute red card left the Hammers in trouble.
Lucas Bergvall doubled Spurs’ advantage with a looping header within seconds of the restart, and Micky van de Ven sealed victory just after the hour. The result leaves Graham Potter’s West Ham without a home win since February and sitting 18th.
Newcastle 1-0 Wolves
Record signing Nick Woltemade enjoyed a dream debut, heading in Jacob Murphy’s cross after 29 minutes to hand Newcastle their first league win of the season.
Wolves had started brightly, with Rodrigo Gomes and Hwang Hee-chan both denied by Nick Pope, but they faded after falling behind. Sandro Tonali went close to a second when his long-range strike hit the post, while Vitor Pereira’s side remain without a point this campaign.
Fulham 1-0 Leeds
A stoppage-time own goal from Gabriel Gudmundsson gifted Fulham victory at Craven Cottage. With the game deep into added time, the Swedish defender misjudged a header, sending the ball beyond Karl Darlow.
Leeds had earlier created the best chances, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin heading at Bernd Leno and Sean Longstaff rattling the crossbar. Aaronson also tested Leno, while Darlow, starting in place of injured Lucas Perri, denied Harry Wilson and new signing Kevin. Fulham now climb above Leeds onto five points.
Everton 0-0 Aston Villa
Everton and Aston Villa played out a goalless draw in a scrappy contest at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Beto squandered two clear chances, including a glaring early miss in front of an open goal. Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, back between the posts, produced fine saves to frustrate the hosts, including a reflex stop from Michael Keane’s header. Jack Grealish and Emiliano Buendia were lively but neither side could break the deadlock.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Sunderland
Palace were held to a frustrating stalemate by newly promoted Sunderland. Yeremy Pino twice went close, while Jean-Philippe Mateta saw efforts denied by Robin Roefs in the second half.
Sunderland looked tired late on but Roefs stood firm, saving from Kamada and Mateta to preserve a point. Palace stay eighth, Sunderland sixth.
Bournemouth 2-1 Brighton
Bournemouth edged past Brighton thanks to Alex Scott’s superb first-half strike and Antoine Semenyo’s penalty.
Scott drilled in from the edge of the area after Semenyo’s hold-up play, before Brighton levelled through Kaoru Mitoma’s header early in the second half. Semenyo restored the lead from the spot after Evanilson was fouled by Jan Paul van Hecke, and Bournemouth held firm for the win.
Arsenal 3-0 Nottingham Forest
Arsenal eased to victory over Nottingham Forest as Martin Zubimendi scored twice on his home debut.
The Gunners led when Chris Wood’s clearance from a Noni Madueke corner fell to Zubimendi, who volleyed in with a slight deflection. After the break, debutant Eberechi Eze set up Viktor Gyokeres for a close-range finish before Zubimendi’s header sealed the result from Leandro Trossard’s cross.
Forest’s best chance fell to Morgan Gibbs-White, who shot wide, while Arsenal coped well despite captain Martin Odegaard going off injured in the first half.
