Portugal 2-1 Czechia
This second game of the evening made up for the absence of EPL players in the earlier match, with no fewer than 9 players taking to the field either from the start or off the bench in Leipzig.
Portugal had 4 Prem players in the starting XI: Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes represented Manchester United, while City had Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva on from the start. Liverpool’s Diogo Jota and Wolves duo Pedro Neto and Nelson Semedo came off the bench, with the Wolves’ men being late subs.
Czechia expectedly had West Ham pair Vladimír Coufal and Tomáš Souček on the pitch from the beginning.
After going behind to a Lukas Provod goal in the 62nd minute (assisted by Coufal), Portugal’s domination of the game finally paid off seven minutes later, with the equaliser coming via a Czech own goal from Robin Hranáč.
Diogo Jota thought he had scored the winning goal with three minutes to go, but VAR disallowed his strike for offside. However, the Portuguese did find the winning goal two minutes into injury time through Francisco Conceição, who was brought on just two minutes earlier.
It was a hard fought victory, with Portugal dominating large portions of the game but needing more than a touch of fortune to come away with the three points.
