Matchday 7 Awards
The biggest football-related problem with autumn is that whenever club football starts picking up steam, there’s an international break to put the breaks on. Naturally, clubs who are doing very well see this as a big inconvenience, while sides in poor form are relishing the opportunity to reassess and try to get their campaign back on track.
Chelsea beating Liverpool is a great example of this, with Maresca’s team most likely wanting to keep going, while the Reds are probably grateful for the chance to reset after three consecutive losses – a first in Arne Slot’s managerial career.
Elsewhere, Manchester United registered a rather comfortable 2-0 win over Sunderland, Spurs beat Leeds 2-1, while Bournemouth continued their outstanding start to the season with a 3-1 victory over Fulham.

Meilleur joueur
Antoine Semenyo captured everyone’s imagination on Friday night, with a performance that will live long in the memory of the Vitality Stadium faithful.
In a game that took a LONG time to get going, the Cherries found themselves a goal down with less than 15 minutes to go. Enter Antoine.
He dazzled on the byline to finish from the tightest of angles by embarrassing Bernd Leno with a ‘tunnel’. Then he laid on an assist for Kluivert’s wondergoal before closing the scoring with a cool finish.
We can’t imagine Bournemouth keeping hold of Semenyo too much longer, so enjoy this while it lasts.

There’s not much of a debate around EPLNews HQ. Justin Kluivert’s long-range finish against Fulham wins this week’s Best Goal award.

Meilleur jeu
For the sheer late drama, as well as being a proverbial ‘game of two halves’, we’re going with Chelsea vs Liverpool this week.
The Reds were dreadful in their first half display at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea the much better side before the interval.
But Slot’s boys decided to show up for the game straight away after the restart, equalise and then ball-watch as Chelsea teen sensation Estevao sent the Blues fans into raptures.
It was a great finish for a game that has provided many classic moments over the years and we’re already looking forward to the likely title-deciding return fixture at Anfield in May.
Meilleures statistiques
Antoine Semenyo has scored 10 of Bournemouth’s last 18 goals, with only Man City’s Erling Haaland able to match the Cherries’ winger’s total since the beginning of April.
Speaking of Haaland, he has now scored at 22 of the 23 stadiums he has played at in the Premier League, which means that he has the highest percentage for this stat in EPL history. The only venue he still needs to score at? Anfield.
Bukayo Saka has now reached 100 Premier League goal involvements (55G, 45A) against West Ham, which was also his 200th appearance for Arsenal. He is the 7th youngest player in Prem history to reach the 100 goal contributions mark, at 24 years and 29 days of age.
Crystal Palace right-back Daniel Munoz has now been involved in 12 goals (6G, 6A) in all competitions in 2025 for the Eagles. That is the highest figure for Premier League defenders for this calendar year.
Meilleure/pire décision VAR
No huge complaints on the refereeing front this time, although, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, we would love to see decisions being made a little quicker.
If you need a long time to review an incident, then perhaps it’s not a clear and obvious error, right?
Meilleure substitution
Estevao, right?
After perhaps considering himself a little unlucky with the playing time afforded to him following his move to Chelsea, Estevao wrote his name in lights in Stamford Bridge folklore with a 95th minute winning goal against Liverpool.
Les moments les plus drôles
Still with Chelsea, who, by the way, can’t seem to stay away from a red card these days, we take a look at Enzo Maresca.
Recreating Jose Mourinho’s running celebration, he made sure that he takes part in the team’s joy after Estevao’s late winner.
Because Maresca had already been booked, this resulted in a second yellow and, naturally, a red card. Which gave us this priceless reaction:
