Premier League Recap: Man United Finally Win, Sorry Spurs Stumble at Home and More

Chelsea 2-0 Fulham: VAR Drama Overshadows Stamford Bridge Victory

Chelsea claimed a controversial 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge, with João Pedro and Enzo Fernández on the scoresheet in a game dominated by VAR decisions.

Fulham thought they had taken the lead in the 21st minute when 18-year-old Josh King fired past Robert Sánchez, only for VAR to rule out the strike due to Rodrigo Muniz’s challenge on Trevoh Chalobah. The visitors were furious, with Marco Silva incensed by the decision and the lengthy delay that followed.

The extended stoppage time proved costly as Chelsea broke through in the ninth added minute of the first half. Fernández’s corner found João Pedro, who rose highest to head home his fifth goal for the club. Fulham’s misery deepened after the restart when Ryan Sessegnon handled Chalobah’s cross. Following another long VAR check, Fernández converted from the penalty spot to seal victory.

Chelsea survived the early loss of Liam Delap to injury, while transfer activity off the pitch added to a chaotic day. Fulham, still winless this season, were once again undone by technology after similar frustration against Manchester United a week earlier.

Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth: Evanilson Strike Ends Spurs’ Perfect Start

Bournemouth stunned Tottenham with a 1-0 away win courtesy of Evanilson’s early strike, handing Thomas Frank his first defeat as Spurs boss.

Inside four minutes, Marcos Senesi’s through ball released Evanilson, who beat Cristian Romero before his effort looped over Guglielmo Vicario. The Brazilian nearly doubled his tally soon after, while Antoine Semenyo and David Brooks both went close. Tottenham, despite having 60% possession in the first half, failed to register a single chance.

After the break, Vicario kept Spurs in it with fine saves from Semenyo and Brooks, with the latter also striking the bar. Spurs improved slightly with substitutes Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert, but chances were wasted, including Mathys Tel’s late volley that narrowly missed.

Bournemouth’s high press and technical superiority exposed Tottenham’s midfield struggles, and only poor finishing prevented a heavier defeat.

Wolves 2-3 Everton: Grealish Stars in Thrilling Away Win

Jack Grealish inspired Everton to a 3-2 win over Wolves at Molineux, showcasing his creativity with two assists in a pulsating contest.

Everton struck first when Grealish flicked on Vitalii Mykolenko’s cross for Beto to head home. Wolves equalised against the run of play through Hwang Hee-chan, but Everton restored their lead before half-time. Grealish slipped Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall into space, who set up Iliman Ndiaye for a composed finish.

After the break, Grealish was again involved, laying off for Dewsbury-Hall to score Everton’s third with a fine left-foot strike. Wolves rallied, with Rodrigo Gomes volleying in and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde forcing a late save from Jordan Pickford, but Everton held firm for their second league win under David Moyes.

Wolves remain pointless after three games, while Grealish looks revitalised at Everton, pulling the strings in midfield and attack.

Manchester United 3-2 Burnley: Fernandes Penalty Snatches Late Win

Manchester United finally secured their first league victory of the season, edging Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ stoppage-time penalty.

United went ahead in the first half when Casemiro’s header bounced in off Josh Cullen for an own goal. But Burnley responded after the break through Lyle Foster’s close-range finish. Bryan Mbeumo restored United’s lead moments later, only for Jaidon Anthony to level after Loum Tchaouna’s shot was parried.

With the match heading for a draw, VAR intervened in stoppage time. Amad Diallo went down under Anthony’s challenge, and after a review, Fernandes converted from the spot in the 97th minute.

Burnley left Old Trafford fuming, while United celebrated a much-needed win before the Manchester derby.

Sunderland 2-1 Brentford: Isidor’s Late Header Completes Comeback

Wilson Isidor scored a dramatic 96th-minute winner as Sunderland came from behind to defeat Brentford 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.

Brentford went ahead through Igor Thiago’s header from Frank Onyeka’s cross. Sunderland equalised when Enzo Le Fée converted from the penalty spot after Rico Henry fouled Habib Diarra.

In stoppage time, Granit Xhaka and Le Fée combined before crossing for Isidor, who headed past Caoimhín Kelleher to spark wild celebrations.

It was harsh on Brentford, who had earlier seen Kevin Schade’s penalty saved by Robin Roefs. Jordan Henderson impressed on his return to Wearside, but Sunderland’s resilience and Isidor’s clinical finish ensured their second win of the campaign.

Leeds 0-0 Newcastle: Stalemate at Elland Road

Newcastle’s search for a first win of the season continues after a goalless draw at Leeds, where new signing Nick Woltemade watched from the stands.

In wet conditions, both sides created few clear chances. Jacob Murphy tested Lucas Perri late in the first half, while Fabian Schär went close with a deflected effort. Leeds, roared on by a boisterous crowd, threatened through Willy Gnonto and substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but lacked a final cutting edge.

Eddie Howe’s side struggled without Alexander Isak, whose future remains uncertain amid Liverpool interest. Leeds remain unbeaten at home in the league since September last year, with four points from their first three matches.
