Premier League Transfer Records: Which Clubs Have Made Their Biggest-Ever Moves?
The Premier League witnessed another extraordinary summer of spending, surpassing the £3 billion mark for the first time in history. In fact, this past summer, the English top division sides have spent more than the Serie A, Ligue 1, La Liga and Bundesliga COMBINED!
Clubs across the EPL splashed out record sums, with six sides setting new benchmarks by breaking their transfer records.
Brentford – Dango Outtarra (£42m)
Brentford cashed in on Bryan Mbeumo (£72m) and Yoane Wissa (£55m), then reinvested heavily in Dango Ouattara. Signed from Bournemouth for £37m, with add-ons taking the deal to £42m, the versatile forward became the Bees’ record buy.
Ouattara had struggled for consistency on the south coast but remains a dangerous attacking threat. He wasted no time making an impact, scoring on his debut for Brentford.
Manager Keith Andrews explained the thinking behind the deal: “We liked his Premier League experience, even at his young age. He just hasn’t found the rhythm yet because of a lack of consistent game time.”
Burnley – Lesley Ugochukwu (£25m)
Burnley, back in the top flight, know the leap from the Championship is a daunting one. Determined to strengthen, they broke their transfer record by recruiting Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea for £25m.
The French midfielder showed glimpses of promise during his loan spell at Southampton last season. Still just 20, he is seen as a player with significant potential who could grow into a Premier League star.
Fulham – Kevin (£34.6m)
Fulham fans endured a long wait before seeing their side move for an outfield signing. The breakthrough finally came on deadline day when Brazilian winger Kevin joined from Shakhtar Donetsk for a record £34.6m.
His arrival bolstered Marco Silva’s attack, easing some of the manager’s frustration with the club’s overall business during the window.
Kevin expressed his delight at the move: “I am happy to be in the biggest league in the world, at a huge club, too. I’m very flattered for everything that’s happening in my life, and I hope to score a lot of goals this season and do great work here in Fulham.”
Liverpool – Alexander Isak (£125m)
Liverpool dominated the headlines with a double record-breaking spree. First came the £116m signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, eclipsing Moises Caicedo’s £115m British record move to Chelsea in 2023.
But the Premier League champions were not done. On deadline day, Liverpool shattered both their own and the British transfer record again by securing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for £125m.
This landmark signing underlined their ambition and sent a warning to rivals.
Newcastle United – Nick Woltemade (£69m)
Newcastle endured a frustrating start to the summer, missing out on several striker targets, including Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike. With Callum Wilson departing and Isak pushing for a move, the need for a centre-forward was urgent.
The Magpies turned to Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, paying £69m for the 22-year-old German. Woltemade had been one of the breakout stars of the 2024/25 season, netting 17 goals in all competitions, helping Stuttgart lift the German Cup, and clinching the Golden Boot at the U21 European Championship.
Sunderland – Habib Diarra (£30.5m)
Promoted Sunderland embarked on one of the most ambitious recruitment drives ever seen from a newly promoted side. Among their biggest moves was the £30.5m capture of Habib Diarra from Strasbourg.
The 20-year-old midfielder has already impressed in a remodelled engine room alongside veteran Granit Xhaka, helping the Black Cats make a bright start to life back in the Premier League.
A Historic Window
This summer reinforced the Premier League’s status as the world’s most financially dominant football league. With seven clubs smashing their transfer records, the scale of ambition across the division has never been clearer. From Liverpool’s headline-breaking statement signings to Sunderland’s daring rebuild, each club has sought to strengthen for the battles ahead in a season already shaping up to be unforgettable.
