Ipswich Town are currently facing a baptism of fire in their first appearance in the Premier League since the early 2000s, but they are signing players with the hopes of remaining in the league in the 2025/26 season. Their latest signing is striker Jack Clarke, who arrived from Sunderland. “Speaking with Kieran McKenna really sells the club and the journey it’s on, as well as what they’re still trying to achieve, and you’re almost silly if you don’t want to jump on board with the way things have been going,” Clarke said at his presentation. The 23-year-old is the Tractor Boys’ 10th signing of the summer and will join up for five years (Ipswich Town official website).
The Tractor Boys’ signing of Clarke may be enough cover after reports emerged of their deal for Armando Broja being close to falling through. The Chelsea striker was set to spend the season on loan at Ipswich Town but an injury was revealed during his medicals at the newly-promoted side. Broja’s medical revealed signs of an Achilles injury but both clubs are still exploring options for the deal to happen (The Sun).
Arsenal have loaned out Fabio Vieira back to FC Porto, the club they bought him from. The Portugal midfielder was signed for £34.3 million ahead of the 2022/23 season but injuries and tactical decisions relegated him to being a fringe player. The Gunners have gone ahead to sign Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino which will further impact Vieira’s playing time, which means that a way out needed to be found for the 24-year-old. He will now join his former club and return ahead of the 2025/26 season with hopes of making it back into the Gunners’ future plans (Fabrizio Romano).
Newcastle United have set their sights on Red Bull Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan as their chase for Marc Guehi becomes tougher. The Eagles do not want to lose two of their most important defenders in one window following the sale of Joachim Andersen to Fulham and are making a deal for Guehi quite hard to get over the line for the Magpies. As a result, the St. James’ Park outfit have turned elsewhere and will now try to broker a deal with Leipzig for Simakan (Caught Offside).
Aston Villa are reportedly targeting Kieran Tierney in the final days of the summer transfer window. Villa have already done well enough in the transfer market so far but want to add a few more players to the mix to help with squad depth now that they will be involved in the UEFA Champions League. Tierney spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad but could not affect their season much due to injuries. Villa want to bring him in as Lucas Digne’s backup (The Sun).
Manor Solomon will join Leeds United following the completion of a medical. The Israel international suffered a season-ending knee injury in October 2023 and Tottenham Hotspur moved forward without him, leaving him with no clear route back into the squad. He will now spend one year in the Championship with Leeds United as he looks to get back to his best. There is no buy option included in the deal, which means that it is a straight loan (David Ornstein, The Athletic).
Another loan is on the cards for Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga with AFC Bournemouth being the interested club this time. Following a trophy-laden spell at Real Madrid, the Spaniard is now back to being a run-of-the-mill player at Chelsea where it is believed he has no future. He is still under contract with the Blues until June 2025 but for now, he looks set to be off to the Vitality Stadium for the 2024/25 season (David Ornstein, The Athletic).
