The Premier League 2024/25 season might have kicked off but transfer activity is still in full swing. Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.
EPL Transfers
Southampton have confirmed the arrival of Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes from Sporting on a five-year deal. The Saints are understood to have paid around £15 million for his services. (Southampton official announcement)
Liverpool are said to be “closing in” on completing the transfer of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, with the two clubs discussing a £34 million move that would see the Georgia goalie continue with the Spanish club for at least a year. Liverpool are not looking to replace Alisson just yet, or to put pressure on him by bringing in another top-level goalkeeper. (The Athletic)
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea will send Armando Broja on loan to Ipswich for the season. If the Tractor Boys are not relegated, there is an obligation to buy the player for £30 million next summer.
Sky Sports understands that talks are progressing between Manchester United and PSG regarding a move to England for Manuel Ugarte. A permanent deal seems to be preferred by both clubs, but a loan with obligation to buy has also been discussed.
Spanish outlet COPE tells us that Real Sociedad are firm on getting at least £34 million from Arsenal for Mikel Merino. The midfielder has one year left on his current contract.
A bit of a transfer triangle. Chelsea have enquired about the availability of Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez, while Aston Villa are interested in both Gomez and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah. Will be interesting to see if anything happens on this front. (Simon Phillips and 90min)
Tottenham will try to seal a deal for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes before the end of the transfer window, according to GIVEMESPORT.
And lastly, back with The Athletic, we learn that Fulham have reached an agreement in principle to bring Joachim Andersen back to Craven Cottage from Crystal Palace. The centre-back has played for Fulham on loan during the 2020/21 season.
