EPL Players at Copa America 2024 – Day 20
We now know the first finalists of the tournament, as Argentina beat Canada relatively comfortably to book their spot. As part of our EPLNews Copa America report, here is how Premier League players involved in the tournament performed.
Argentina 2-0 Canada
It was a professional performance from the reigning champions in New Jersey as they scored a goal in each half to qualify for the final of this year’s Copa America. The opener came in the 22nd minute from City forward Julian Alvarez, after a defence-splitting pass from Rodrigo de Paul. The clincher was signed by Lionel Messi, redirecting an Enzo Fernandez shot into the net in the 51st minute.
All Premier League players who featured in this game did so for Argentina and played well, with Emiliano Martinez making an exceptional save on the brink of half time, while both Alvarez and Fernandez were decisive in attack. Meanwhile, the likes of Romero and Mac Allister more than did their part to keep things tight at the back en route to a clean sheet.
