EPL Players at Copa America 2024 – Day 12

Group C concluded on day 12, as Uruguay and Panama booked their tickets for the quarter-finals by overcoming USA and Bolivia, respectively. As part of our EPLNews Copa America report, here is how Premier League players involved in the tournament performed.

Bolivia 1-3 Panama

Panama needed a result against Bolivia in Orlando to have a chance at going through, and they got it thanks to goals from Jose Fajardo, Eduardo Guerrero and Cesar Yanis. The Bolivian goal was scored by Bruno Miranda.

No Premier League players featured in this game.

USA 0-1 Uruguay

Having already qualified for the knockout stages, Uruguay made it a matter of pride to top the group on nine points. They did so by beating hosts USA in Kansas City and eliminating them from the tournament in the process.

USA needed a result in this match to progress, but the game’s only goal was scored by Uruguay’s Mathias Oliveira, while the hosts could feel aggrieved by the decision to allow the goal to stand, as the defender appeared to be offside.

The Premier League was well represented, with five Americans in the starting XI plying their trade in the league, while Uruguay called upon two such players from the start and one off the bench. The best performers were Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri and Forest’s Matt Turner. At the other end of the spectrum, Darwin Núñez had a poor game, and so did Antonee Robinson.

Ratings

USA: Matt Turner (Nottingham Forest) – 7; Chris Richards (Crystal Palace) – 6.5; Tim Ream (Fulham) – 6.5; Antonee Robinson (Fulham) – 5.5; Tyler Adams (Bournemouth) – 5.5

Uruguay: Facundo Pellistri (Manchester United) – 7; Darwin Núñez (Liverpool) – 5.5; Rodrigo Bentancur (Tottenham) – 6
