Latest Premier League News and Transfer Rumours

Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.

Old Trafford to Get New Name?

Manchester United are considering a few different options about the possible name rights to Old Trafford, whether they choose to revamp the current stadium or build a new one from scratch.

After Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS became part-owners of the club, a new committee has been established by United to weigh up what makes more sense: a renovation of Old Trafford or a new stadium. As it is normal for such an important process, this committee will be analysing whether making a deal with a sponsor for the stadium naming rights makes sense.

However, it is expected that the words ‘Old Trafford’ will still be in the name regardless of which way discussions go.

Premier League Warns About Swap Deals

A number of EPL clubs including Aston Villa, Chelsea and Everton have agreed deals for academy players in recent weeks, such as Lewis Dobbin’s move from Everton to Villa for £9 million or Tim Iroegbunam going the other way for a similar fee, while Chelsea have also faced scrutiny regarding possible deals involving Ian Maatsen and Omari Kellyman.

And now Premier League Director of Governance Jamie Herbert has intervened with a warning. He has sent an email to all 20 clubs revealing concern about whether these deals are made in good faith. It is also mentioned that the Premier League has the power to look at official documentation regarding negotiations. And should it be decided that the deals have not been conducted in the right way, then it can impose fair market value rules.

Herbert’s email has also reminded clubs that they could be obliged to return any transfer fee in part or fully should a certain fee be inflated.
