EPL Players at EURO 2024 – Day 10
The first games of Matchday 3 took place yesterday and group A is now concluded. Germany and Switzerland are certain of their spots in the round of 16, with the hosts as group winners, while Hungary must wait for results in the other groups to see if they qualify from third spot. As part of our EPLNews EURO 2024 report, here is how Premier League players performed in these games.
Scotland 0-1 Hungary
There was late heartbreak for the Tartan Army in Stuttgart, as they conceded a goal with virtually the last kick of a game that saw two Liverpool players captaining their countries.
While the match never really got going until about five minutes before second half injury time, it was mostly Hungary who dominated proceedings in sterile fashion. They fashioned five shots on goal, while Scotland only mustered one, despite knowing that a win for Robertson & Co. will very likely see them through to the round of 16.
However, it is now Szoboszlai and Hungary who await the conclusion of other groups to see if they are one of the four best third-placed teams who advance, after a goal in the 10th minute of stoppage time from Kevin Csoboth.
Ratings
Scotland: Andy Robertson (Liverpool) – 6; John McGinn (Aston Villa) – 6; Billy Gilmour (Brighton) – 6.5; Scott McTominay (Manchester United) – 6.5; Che Adams (Southampton) – 5.5; Stuart Armstrong (Southampton) – 5.5; Ryan Christie (Bournemouth) – N/A

Switzerland 1-1 Germany
A draw in Frankfurt ensured that the hosts and Switzerland advanced together to the round of 16.
A first half goal from Dan Ndoye gave Switzerland the lead and the prospect of topping group A, but Germany equalised in second half injury time through Niclas Füllkrug to finish the group stage in first place with seven points.
Premier League players did not perform particularly well in this match, as the spotlight shone rather on Ndoye for the Swiss and, once again, Jamal Musiala for Germany. However, Arsenal’s Kai Havertz was on the end of a couple of missed chances, and Newcastle’s Fabian Schär had an overall decent game.
Ratings
Switzerland: Fabian Schär (Newcastle) – 7; Manuel Akanji (Manchester City) – 6.5
Germany: Kai Havertz (Arsenal) – 7
