Latest Premier League News and Transfer Rumours
Here is our EPL transfers and news round-up from today’s papers.
Why Manchester United Kept Erik ten Hag
In an interview with Bloomberg, United’s part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe explained why the club decided to not sack their manager: “The coach isn’t the central issue at Manchester United.”
“It’s a sports club. It needs to be competitive, it needs a degree of intensity, but with a supportive side to it because you are dealing with players who are relatively young. It hasn’t had that type of environment historically.”
Liverpool Coaching Staff Update
New Reds’ head coach Arne Slot has provided some news on his coaches in the first official interview since joining the club.
Slot will be joined at Anfield by Sipke Hulshoff as assistant head coach. The former Netherlands coach and Feyenoord Under-21s boss had been Slot’s assistant at De Kuip since 2022.
Liverpool are also hiring Ruben Peeters as their new lead physical performance coach as expected, while German Fabian Otte will leave his role with the United States national team after the upcoming Copa America tournament in the USA in order to become the Reds’ head of first-team goalkeeper coaching.
According to Slot, he and new sporting director Richard Hughes are also in discussions about a couple more positions to be filled.
England’s Left-Back Woes
Mail Sport understands that Three Lions’ coach Gareth Southgate has been hit with the news that Luke Shaw is still not able to join full training with the squad at EURO 2024, making the decision to take him to the tournament an increasingly dubious one.
While Shaw is a great left-back when fit, he has not been featuring consistently for Manchester United in months, and Southgate’s other option for the position is Kieran Trippier, who is not a natural fit.
Those calls for Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell being omitted from the 26-man squad seem more and more justified now.
