Premier League 2023/24: Every Team’s Best Highlight
As the season ended, it made us reflect on some of the campaign’s most significant moments.
Naturally, we have covered the top 10 in separate articles, and you can read them all here. Today we will be looking at the best moment for each team in this EPL season review.
Arsenal
Despite coming close to winning the title for the second season running, one moment from 2023/24 that we think Arsenal fans should cherish is their Community Shield triumph over Manchester City.
While not exactly a major trophy, the Gunners’ win on penalties showed that there are weaknesses in City’s armour that they can exploit. It should provide some hope ahead of another title challenge in 2024/25.
Aston Villa
The best Villa moment this term must be securing a return to the Champions League for the first time in over 40 years.
The outstanding progress they have shown under Unai Emery led them to being considered dark horses in the title race after beating Arsenal and Manchester City in quick succession back in December, which was another highlight of their season.
Bournemouth
Andoni Iraola’s style has led them to safety this season, with a new points record for the club in the EPL and some unforgettable attacking performances.
An all-time PREMIER LEAGUE CLASSIC | AFC Bournemouth 4-3 Luton Town
The highlight of their season is the comeback mounted against Luton, from 0-3 at half time to a 4-3 win that the Vitality Stadium will not forget anytime soon.
Brentford
The moment Ivan Toney made his comeback from a long-term suspension for betting charges was the best moment of their season. It split their campaign into ‘before’ and ‘after’ phases, as the striker scored on his return.
The club will be hoping to keep him this summer, amid interest from Arsenal and other big English teams.
Brighton and Hove Albion
After losing 2 of their most important players in Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo last summer, the Seagulls embarked on their first ever European campaign.
While their Premier League form was not as good as the season before, 2023/24 will be remembered for the run to the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 and topping a difficult group that included Olympique Marseille, Ajax Amsterdam and AEK Athens.
Burnley
A Premier League campaign that ended with relegation and the (to be confirmed) departure of the coach to Bayern Munich will not have many highlights.
The few bright moments usually were provided by Sander Berge, with the Norwegian putting in some good performances in the middle of the park.
Chelsea
Undeniable progress is the best thing to come out of this EPL season for the Blues. After finishing 2022/23 in 12th spot, this season brought a 6th place finish, qualifying Chelsea for next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League.
This would not have been possible without signing Cole Palmer from City last summer. He ended the season with 33 goal contributions (22G, 11A).
Crystal Palace
The highlight of the season was the Eagles’ 4-0 win over Manchester United earlier this month.
OLISE MAGIC 🪄 sinks MAN UNITED 😮💨 | Premier League Highlights: Crystal Palace 4-0 Manchester United
Arriving in February, manager Oliver Glasner set about getting the best out of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta. This forward line powered Palace to a 10th place finish and, if the club manages to keep their stars, could see them go even higher next season.
Everton
After a season of points deductions and relegation struggles, the best moment of the 2023/24 campaign for the Toffees was their stunning 2-0 victory over local rivals Liverpool last month.
Young centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the goals that sealed the Toffees’ first home Premier League win over Liverpool since 2010 and virtually guaranteed their survival.
Fulham
In a somewhat unspectacular season in which they were not threatened by relegation or looked like making a push for the UEFA spots, Fulham’s best moment came on December 31, as they beat title challengers Arsenal at Craven Cottage.
Coming back from a goal down, goals from Raul Jimenez and Bobby De Cordova-Reid sealed a famous win and gave the home support something to cheer about.
Liverpool
While a bittersweet moment, Jürgen Klopp’s farewell and the outpouring of love from the Anfield stands seem to be the outstanding bits of the 2023/24 season.
It remains to be seen how Arne Slot, now confirmed as the next Liverpool head coach, will be able to follow in the German’s footsteps.
Luton Town
The best performance of 2023/24 for the Hatters was the 4-0 win against Brighton at the end of January. A hat-trick by Elijah Adebayo and a goal from Chiedozie Ogbene created one of the most surprising results of the campaign.
They can also hold their heads high about how they fought to avoid relegation, with some encouraging results. It ended up not being enough though, as they head back to the Championship after only one season in the EPL.
Manchester City
Winning a 4th title in a row is something that no English team has ever done before.
While they were pushed hard by Arsenal and, for most of the season, Liverpool, Pep Guardiola and his team kept their cool to achieve immortality.
Manchester United
The Red Devils’ best moment this season did not come in the Premier League, as they could only muster an 8th place finish.
But Erik ten Hag and his players secured the FA Cup trophy after an unlikely 2-1 win over Manchester City in the final. It remains to be seen if that is enough to keep the Dutch manager in charge ahead of next season.
Newcastle United
The highlight for the Magpies was their participation in this season’s UEFA Champions League. They were handed a tough draw, in a group with AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
While they exited European competition at the end of the group stage, it was still a good showing from a team that had not played continental football in a decade.
Nottingham Forest
Securing Premier League status on the final day of the season, despite it being a formality at that stage, was the best moment of 2023/24 for the Tricky Trees.
2 goals from Chris Wood in the final game against Burnley were enough to ensure that Nottingham will be playing EPL football next season.
Sheffield United
It was an abject showing by the Blades, who went back down to the Championship having conceded the most goals by a single Premier League team ever in one season.
However, the brightest light in a dark campaign was their late win against Wolves back in November. An Oliver Norwood penalty in the 10th minute of injury time was the goal that gave the Sheffield United fans some belief. In the grand scheme of things though, it was not enough.
Tottenham Hotspur
After losing Harry Kane last summer, and with a new manager at the helm, Spurs’ fans could have been forgiven for not expecting much from this campaign.
They managed to finish 5th though, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League and playing some attractive football. The best example was their performance in the 4-1 win over Newcastle in December.
A brace by Richarlison, in addition to goals from Udogie and Son, were the best bits in a great team performance, showing what Ange Postecoglou’s team can do on their day.
West Ham United
Finishing 9th was not something that the Hammers’ fans were hoping for, but they did witness some bright moments during 2023/24.
Perhaps the best team performance came in their 3-0 win over Wolves back in December. Having lost 0-5 against Fulham a week earlier, West Ham rallied and showed what they are made of.
A hat-trick of assists from Lucas Paqueta meant that Bowen scored a goal and Kudus a brace, giving the London Stadium supporters a taste of free-flowing attacking football.
They now step into a new era, as David Moyes has departed the club after four-and-a-half years and Julen Lopetegui has been confirmed as his replacement.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Gary O’Neill took over at Wolves with the team tipped for a bitter relegation battle this season. Instead he has steered them to a respectable total of 46 points, finishing the campaign in 14th place.
Their best moment of 2023/24 was the 4-2 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, courtesy of a hat-trick by Matheus Cunha and a Disasi own goal.
