Bournemouth vs Brentford Report

Scorers: Solanke 90’; Mbeumo 87’, Wissa 90+4’

Brentford snatched a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, with Yoane Wissa scoring in the dying moments of the match to end the Cherries’ seven-game unbeaten home streak in the Premier League.

Early Controversy and VAR Drama

The match kicked off with high intensity as both teams looked to rebound from recent setbacks.

Bournemouth, under Andoni Iraola, seemed to have taken the lead through Dominic Solanke, but his goal was disallowed following a VAR check for a handball in the build-up.

The frustration for the Cherries continued as referee Matthew Donohue, overseeing his first Premier League match, waved off another Solanke goal for a minor infringement.

A Tale of Missed Opportunities

As the game progressed, both sides created but squandered numerous chances. Brentford aimed to avoid a third consecutive scoreless match, pressing forward with increased intensity.

Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly came closest for the home side, narrowly missing the target with a header from a corner.

Late Goals Galore

The deadlock was finally broken in the 87th minute when Bryan Mbeumo celebrated his 199th club appearance with a crucial goal, seemingly setting Brentford on course for a win.

However, Bournemouth struck back almost immediately through Solanke, who found the net with a well-placed header, registering his 21st goal of the season.

Wissa’s Stoppage-Time Heroics

Just when it appeared the match would end in a draw, Yoane Wissa emerged as Brentford’s hero. Deep into stoppage time, he received a pass from Mbeumo and unleashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net, securing all three points for the visitors.

Implications and Reflections

The result was a bitter pill for Bournemouth, who missed a chance to climb into the top half of the table.

In contrast, Thomas Frank’s Brentford extended their impressive run of securing a victory in their final away game of the season for the fourth consecutive year.

As Bournemouth reflect on what might have been, Brentford celebrates a dramatic victory that highlights the unpredictable nature of the Premier League.
