Wolves vs Luton Preview
Wolves are enduring a difficult end to the 2023/24 Premier League season, failing to secure a win in their last six outings (D2, L4).
The latest setback was a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Molineux in midweek, which Wolves boss Gary O’Neil labelled as his team’s “worst performance of the season.”
This result marked Wolves’ third consecutive home loss, the longest streak since December 2022. To end the campaign on a high note, they need to improve ahead of Luton Town’s visit to Molineux.
Molineux No Longer a Fortress
Wolves’ struggles at home are particularly concerning. They’ve failed to score in their last two home games, and their record against newly-promoted teams may offer little solace, despite an ongoing eight-match unbeaten H2H streak (W4, D4).
They have only two losses from their last 15 Premier League games against promoted sides (W5, D8), but form and morale seem lacking.
Luton’s Desperate Fight for Survival
Luton Town, too, are in a perilous position after a 5-1 home defeat to Brentford. This loss was their joint-heaviest of the campaign and extended their winless streak to 13 league games (D3, L9).
With rivals Nottingham Forest set to play Manchester City, Luton see this as a must-win to avoid relegation.
Their away record is another worry. With no clean sheet in 17 attempts and only ten points from away matches (the second-lowest in the league), their chances of overcoming Wolves look slim. Historically, they’ve struggled at Molineux, losing both away H2Hs in the Premier League era.
Key Players to Watch
Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan could be a crucial figure as he aims to add to his ten Premier League goals, with six of those coming at Molineux.
For Luton, Carlton Morris could be a late-game threat, with three of his nine league strikes this term arriving beyond the 80th minute.
Both teams are in dire need of a victory, but Wolves’ home-field advantage might be enough to hold off Luton Town’s bid for survival.
While Wolves are playing for pride and mid-table respectability, Luton Town have everything to fight for, making this a critical clash for both sides.
