EPL Transfer News: City’s New Keeper, Chelsea Exits, Newcastle Developments and More
Manchester City Close in on Gianluigi Donnarumma
Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Gianluigi Donnarumma and are actively negotiating a fee with Paris Saint-Germain.
Donnarumma confirmed his shock departure from PSG earlier this month, only weeks after leading the French side to their first-ever Champions League title. His agent stated that the Italian goalkeeper was willing to reduce his salary to remain in Paris, but manager Luis Enrique made it clear he was no longer wanted by signing Lucas Chevalier as his replacement.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Pep Guardiola’s side have already settled on contract terms with Donnarumma. While PSG initially demanded £43.3 million, reports suggest the final fee will fall below that figure.
However, space in City’s squad will only open up if Ederson departs. Galatasaray are said to have submitted a bid worth £8.6 million for the Brazilian goalkeeper, which has prompted negotiations.
The developments follow a poor display by James Trafford, the summer signing from Burnley who became the most expensive English goalkeeper in history. Trafford, who had kept a clean sheet against Wolverhampton Wanderers on his senior debut for the club he joined at the age of 12, struggled during Saturday’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund in Transfer Talks
Chelsea are reportedly finalising deals that will see Carney Chukwuemeka and Aarón Anselmino join Borussia Dortmund, with an exit for Tyrique George also under discussion.
Continuing their typically aggressive transfer activity under BlueCo’s ownership, Chelsea have once again been among the busiest clubs in Europe. Only Liverpool have outspent the Blues this summer, while player sales have already raised more than £200 million. That figure could increase further with Dortmund’s involvement.
Sky Germany have revealed that Dortmund are on the verge of permanently signing Chukwuemeka following his successful loan spell during the second half of the 2024–25 campaign. Anselmino is expected to join the Bundesliga side on loan, with the two deals valued at a combined £21.6 million.
As for Tyrique George, Bundesliga sides RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach were previously linked with the 19-year-old, and now Roma have reportedly made an enquiry, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Bruno Fernandes Linked with Saudi Arabia Move
According to SunSport, Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad have held “secret meetings” with the representatives of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.
The midfielder has not dismissed the prospect of leaving Old Trafford and is believed to be demanding an annual salary of £33 million should he complete a move.
Al Hilal Eye Jérémy Jacquet
Rennes prodigy Jérémy Jacquet is attracting attention from several European giants, but Al Hilal have emerged as surprise contenders.
As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, the Saudi Pro League club are preparing a major bid that could see them beat Arsenal and Real Madrid to the teenager’s signature. Jacquet would be entitled to what has been described as a “staggering salary.”
Liverpool Face Competition for Marc Guéhi
Liverpool’s pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi has hit a stumbling block, with Manchester City now entering the race, according to the Daily Star.
Guéhi has long been identified as Liverpool’s top centre-back target, but rival Premier League interest could complicate negotiations.
André Onana Could Return to Inter
Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana may be offered a lifeline with a potential return to Inter, CaughtOffside have reported.
The Cameroonian has endured a difficult spell at Old Trafford since joining the club, and a move back to his former side has been touted as a possible solution.
İlkay Gündoğan on Bayer Leverkusen’s Radar
Veteran midfielder İlkay Gündoğan is reportedly being lined up by Bayer Leverkusen. Nicolò Schira has claimed that Pep Guardiola no longer considers the former Manchester City captain part of his plans this season.
Chelsea Face Competition for Alejandro Garnacho
Chelsea’s move for Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho has been complicated by late interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Indykaila.
While Chelsea remain favourites for the winger’s signature, the situation is far from resolved as Spurs look to hijack the deal.
Axel Disasi Sparks Premier League Battle
CaughtOffside have suggested that Axel Disasi’s departure from Chelsea could ignite a three-way Premier League battle.
Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all keen on signing the French defender, who is valued at around £35 million.
Newcastle United Chase Davide Frattesi
Newcastle United’s midfield recruitment could soon intensify, with Inter Milan quoting £34.6 million for Davide Frattesi, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian international has impressed in Serie A and is now firmly on the radar of the Magpies as they look to strengthen their squad.
