EPL Transfer News: Konate to Stay, Sancho’s Move to Roma, Crystal Palace Selling Eze and More
Liverpool’s Contract Stand-Off with Ibrahima Konaté
Liverpool are set to present Ibrahima Konaté with a new contract offer in the coming days, but could look to sell the defender this summer if he turns it down, according to recent reports.
The 26-year-old’s current deal at Anfield runs until next summer, sparking uncertainty over his future amid strong interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. The Reds are understandably keen for Konaté to commit to a new agreement, as they aim to avoid losing him for free in 2026. The club are desperate to avoid a repeat of the Trent Alexander-Arnold situation.
Spanish outlet MARCA claims that Liverpool will submit a formal proposal to the centre back “in the coming days” to fend off competition from Europe’s elite. Should Konaté refuse, the Merseyside club would consider offloading him during this summer’s transfer window.
Reports suggest Liverpool are already aware of talks between Konaté and Real Madrid, with the Frenchman open to the move. AS reports that the Reds would demand £43 million for his services, while Los Blancos are only willing to pay a maximum of £21.5 million.
With Virgil van Dijk, Konaté and Joe Gomez as their only senior centre backs following Jarell Quansah’s departure, Liverpool’s depth is already thin. However, the club are finalising a deal for 18-year-old Giovanni Leoni and remain interested in Marc Guéhi.
Roma Enter the Race for Jadon Sancho
AS Roma have emerged as a new contender in the Jadon Sancho transfer saga, reportedly making an approach to sign the Manchester United winger.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Roma’s proposal is worth £20 million in a total package, including a loan with an obligation to buy next summer. Sancho is said to be open to the move, but Manchester United must also agree to the terms.
Last season, Sancho was on loan at Chelsea in a deal that also carried a purchase obligation. However, the Blues chose to pay a penalty fee instead, returning the 25-year-old to Old Trafford. His future remains unresolved, with Sancho deemed surplus to requirements alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford—now spending a season at Barcelona—and Alejandro Garnacho.
Romano adds that Sancho is currently not interested in a move to Türkiye, despite Beşiktaş entering the race. The club’s fans had been excited by the prospect, flooding Sancho’s latest Instagram post with over 5.5 million comments urging him to “Come to Beşiktaş.” The winger, however, appears to have a preference elsewhere.
