Bournemouth vs Brentford Report
Scorers: Janelt (OG) 17’; Wissa 30’, Norgaard 71’
Brentford came from behind to defeat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium, maintaining their unbeaten Premier League record against the Cherries.
The victory marked the Bees’ fifth consecutive away win, lifting them to 11th place in the league, just three points behind Bournemouth, who extended their winless streak across all competitions.
Bournemouth Start Strong But Brentford Hit Back
The hosts made an energetic start, with Milos Kerkez testing Mark Flekken early on before Evanilson and Ryan Christie had efforts blocked.
Dean Huijsen also went close, striding forward to unleash a shot that was deflected wide by Nathan Collins, while Evanilson later attempted an audacious dinked finish from a tight angle but failed to find the target.
Bournemouth’s dominance eventually paid off in the 17th minute when Kerkez latched onto Antoine Semenyo’s pass and drilled a dangerous cross into the box. The ball deflected off Brentford’s Vitaly Janelt and bounced into the net, giving the Cherries a deserved lead.
Brentford responded well and nearly hit back immediately through Kevin Schade, but his tame header was easily collected by Kepa Arrizabalaga. The German forward had another promising opportunity, but a heavy touch allowed Illya Zabarnyi to clear the danger.
The visitors finally found their equaliser on the 30-minute mark when Yoane Wissa rose highest to meet Bryan Mbeumo’s corner, guiding his header inside the post beyond Kepa.
Brentford nearly completed the turnaround before half-time, with both Mbeumo and Schade coming agonisingly close, while at the other end, Evanilson forced a strong save from Flekken.
Brentford Complete the Comeback as Bournemouth Falter
Much like the first half, Bournemouth started brightly after the break, with Semenyo’s header from Justin Kluivert’s cross rattling the crossbar.
The match became more cagey as both teams competed for control, with chances drying up. Bournemouth nearly regained the lead when Evanilson teed up Marcus Tavernier, but his effort curled just over the top corner.
Brentford capitalised on their next big moment. Schade launched a long throw into the box, which Bournemouth failed to clear, and Christian Nørgaard reacted quickest to finish clinically, completing the turnaround.
Brentford’s Away Form Continues as Bournemouth’s Struggles Deepen
Bournemouth pushed for an equaliser, with David Brooks meeting a pinpoint cross from Luis Sinisterra but firing straight at Flekken.
The Brentford goalkeeper remained sharp, denying both Tavernier and Semenyo in the final minutes to ensure the Bees claimed their fifth consecutive away win.
Brentford’s latest triumph sees them climb to 11th place, just three points behind Bournemouth. Meanwhile, the Cherries’ winless run extended to five matches across all competitions, though that streak does include their penalty shootout victory over Wolves in the FA Cup.
With their European ambitions fading, Andoni Iraola’s men must quickly rediscover their form.
