Nottingham Forest continued their charge towards a Premier League top-four finish with a dominant 4-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The result further cements Forest’s European ambitions while leaving the Tractor Boys winless in league action throughout 2025, the only team in England’s top four divisions yet to secure a victory this year.

Forest Take Control After Cagey Opening

Both sides started with attacking intent, but clear-cut chances were hard to come by. Ipswich, desperately fighting to avoid an immediate return to the Championship, came close early on when Omari Hutchinson fired just over the crossbar.

It took more than 30 minutes for the game’s first shot on target, with Chris Wood’s header comfortably saved by Alex Palmer.

However, that moment appeared to spark Forest into life. Just minutes later, Callum Hudson-Odoi’s dangerous cross caused havoc in the Ipswich box, allowing Nikola Milenković to react quickest and smash the ball into the roof of the net.

Forest Blow Ipswich Away With First-Half Blitz

The old football cliché about goals coming like London buses proved true, as Forest doubled their lead almost immediately from the restart. Anthony Elanga surged down the right flank before cutting inside and curling a brilliant left-footed strike into the far corner.

Ipswich, in danger of collapse, then completely unravelled before half-time. The two earlier scorers combined, with Elanga latching onto a long ball from Milenković before coolly slotting past the onrushing Palmer to make it 3-0 before the break.

Ipswich Fight Back But Forest Maintain Control

With the game effectively over by half-time, Ipswich aimed to salvage some pride. They nearly pulled one back when Liam Delap met Leif Davis’ corner with a header that drifted narrowly wide.

The home side eventually found a consolation through Jens Cajuste, who curled a stunning effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.

However, Forest quickly restored their three-goal cushion when Jota Silva rounded off a fluid counter-attack to make it 4-1.

Ipswich grabbed a second goal late on through George Hirst, but it did little to dampen Forest’s celebrations, as they secured a crucial three points to strengthen their hold on a Champions League spot.

Forest March On While Ipswich Edge Closer to Relegation

This emphatic victory keeps Nottingham Forest firmly in the race for a top-four finish, while Ipswich remain nine points adrift of safety with just nine games remaining.

Their search for a first league win of 2025 continues, and unless a miraculous turnaround occurs, they appear destined for relegation.
