Newcastle vs Wolves Report

Scorers: Isak 34’, 57’, Gordon 74’

Alexander Isak’s scintillating form continued as Newcastle United cruised to a 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at St. James’ Park, securing their sixth consecutive Premier League win and a spot in the top four.

The Swede’s brace and a late goal from Anthony Gordon sealed a dominant display, while Wolves were left to rue missed opportunities and a disallowed goal.

First Half: Isak’s Brilliance Breaks the Deadlock

Newcastle entered the match brimming with confidence after eight consecutive victories across all competitions.

Jacob Murphy set the tone early, forcing José Sá into a sharp save, while at the other end, Gonçalo Guedes squandered a golden opportunity, dragging his shot wide after a defensive mix-up.

The Magpies capitalised on their dominance in the 26th minute through Isak’s individual brilliance.

Picking up the ball from deep, the striker surged past Wolves’ defenders and benefited from a lucky deflection to score his ninth goal in eight Premier League games – setting a new club record.

Wolves nearly equalised when Jørgen Strand Larsen’s effort clipped the post, but Newcastle retained their lead going into halftime, with Sandro Tonali narrowly missing the target with a deflected strike just before the whistle.

Second Half: Newcastle Take Control

The hosts tightened their grip on the game after the restart. Isak doubled Newcastle’s lead in the 58th minute, showcasing his poise in front of goal by converting Bruno Guimarães’ pass with a composed finish.

The goal highlighted Newcastle’s fluid attacking play, with Wolves struggling to cope with the Magpies’ pace and precision.

Wolves pushed for a way back into the game, but their efforts fell short. Matheus Cunha, introduced at halftime, dragged a promising chance wide before Newcastle delivered the decisive blow in the 81st minute.

Breaking on the counter, Isak turned provider, squaring the ball for Anthony Gordon, who swept home his fifth goal in six games to seal the victory.

Late Drama: Wolves Denied Consolation

Wolves thought they had pulled one back when Santiago Bueno bundled the ball into the net, but the effort was disallowed for a handball.

Moments later, Martin Dúbravka produced a stunning save to tip Strand Larsen’s close-range shot onto the crossbar, preserving Newcastle’s clean sheet and ensuring a commanding win.

What’s Next?

Newcastle’s form makes them strong contenders for Champions League qualification, with Eddie Howe’s side looking increasingly assured in both attack and defence.

Meanwhile, Wolves face a tough battle to climb out of the relegation zone, with Pereira needing to address their lack of cutting edge and defensive frailties quickly.
