FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 14
It should come as no surprise that Erling Haaland has lost £0.3m of his price tag after poor returns in the last seven gameweeks. What is surprising, however, is that he is now the third most-owned player in the game. This is a shock because many Fantasy Premier League managers have kept faith in Haaland even during his spells on the sidelines.
If you are a manager with Haaland and are thinking of whether to sell or keep him and invest that £15.0m that you will get from transferring the Norwegian out of your team, this EPLNews guide will show you how to spend that fantasy money for the best value this week.
Gameweek Analysis
For two weeks straight, Arsenal’s defenders have been the best-performing defensive assets in the game. Those with Gabriel Magalhães (£6.2m) are especially beaming from ear to ear as they read this guide. Arsenal’s matches for the next six weeks are relatively easy, which means that sticking with the Brazilian and/or the other Arsenal defensive assets you possess is a wise call.
The only flaw in this plan is that Arsenal’s next fixture is against Manchester United.
If this were against Erik ten Hag’s version of the team, there would be no issue. However, Ruben Amorim has changed the dynamics and fortunes of the 20-time Premier League champions and this makes their clash with Arsenal a hard one to call.
With Marcus Rashford (£6.9m), Amad Diallo (£5.0m) and Noussair Mazraoui (£4.7m) all enjoying a new lease of life under the Portuguese manager, keeping Arsenal defenders in your starting XI for the week may be an error in judgement, even though it is wise to have them as long-term assets.
With this in mind, here are two games which can provide enough value for you in case you choose to take the risk on any Arsenal or Manchester United assets for gameweek 14.
Best Value Games for Week 14
Aston Villa vs Brentford
Players to watch: Morgan Rogers (£5.3m), Bryan Mbeumo (£7.8m), Ollie Watkins (£9.0m), Mark Flekken (£4.5m).
AFC Bournemouth vs Tottenham Hotspur
Players to watch: Justin Kluivert (£5.2m), James Maddison (£7.6m), Son Heung-Min (£9.9m), Antoine Semenyo (£5.7m).
Remember that if you still have your first Wildcard chip, you must use it before the game week 19 deadline!
Best FPL Players for Week 14
Dean Henderson (£4.4m) – Crystal Palace
This will mark the first time that a Crystal Palace player not named Jean-Philippe Mateta is one of our top picks for a game week and for good reason too. The Eagles will travel to Portman Road on week 14 to take on the Tractor Boys, Ipswich Town. Fans know that this is a match that may not produce many returns but REAL fans know that Dean Henderson is a great goalkeeper.
Palace are not keeping enough clean sheets which has seen them drop down to 17th on the log, but they are the joint-fifth-best defensive side in the league. They have conceded only 18 goals this season and a lot of it has been down to the former Manchester United goalkeeper’s shot-stopping ability. He will be facing a team who are not the sharpest in front of goal, which not only gives him the opportunity to finally keep a clean sheet but to get enough save points for week 14. At £4.4m, he is also a good bargain asset for the game week.
Josko Gvardiol (£6.2m) – Manchester City
Manchester City will be taking on Nottingham Forest as they look to return to winning ways. Pep Guardiola did not use the Croatian defender against Liverpool, which means he will be well-rested for the Tricky Trees’ visit on week 14. Gvardiol’s ability to contribute both defensively and offensively makes him a coveted FPL asset. With Forest on the horizon and a good run of games for the Cityzens up to week 22, the best time to get Gvardiol into your team would be ahead of week 14.
Bukayo Saka (£10.3m) – Arsenal
Right now, only Mohamed Salah and, to a lesser extent, Cole Palmer are better assets than Bukayo Saka. The young Englishman is almost guaranteed an assist at the barest minimum in every gameweek of the 2024/25 Premier League seasons because of his delivery and final ball prowess.
He scored a week-high 18 points in week 13 and now he has Manchester United in front of him. This will be a big test for him, but the Hale End graduate has shown he can do it against the Red Devils in the past. Also, Arsenal have a great run of fixtures until gameweek 22, which makes his transfer a no-brainer for serious FPL managers.
