EPL Transfer News: Forest, Konate, Gallagher and More
Nottingham Forest Accuse Spurs of “Illegal Approach”
Nottingham Forest are reportedly weighing legal action against Tottenham Hotspur over what they claim to be an “illegal approach” for midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White. Spurs had activated the £60 million release clause in Gibbs-White’s contract and scheduled a medical for the England international on Friday. However, the deal now hangs in the balance.
According to Sky Sports News, Forest have cut all communication with Spurs and are consulting with legal advisers in preparation for filing a formal complaint with the Premier League. The club believes that Spurs engaged in direct communication with Gibbs-White without their consent. They also suspect a breach of confidentiality, given that Spurs’ bid precisely matched the release clause.
Forest’s current stance is that the transfer is “off,” and any progression on the deal could face serious delays if a Premier League investigation is launched.
The Premier League has strict rules prohibiting contracted players from engaging in transfer talks with other clubs without permission. Penalties for breaching these regulations range from fines to transfer bans. While enforcement has been sporadic, clubs can formally report flagrant violations. If Forest’s complaint leads to an investigation, it could significantly disrupt Spurs’ transfer plans.
