Manchester United vs West Ham Report

Scorers: Soucek 26’, Bowen 57’

West Ham United produced a superb performance to claim a deserved 2-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, ending a 16-match winless run in away Premier League encounters against the Red Devils. Goals from Tomáš Souček and Jarrod Bowen sealed a landmark victory that lifts the Hammers above United in the table, while Ruben Amorim’s men remain in free fall domestically.

First Half – Souček Silences Old Trafford

Amorim made six changes from the side that triumphed in the UEFA Europa League semi-final, handing starts to Mason Mount and Amad Diallo. The latter was bright early on, linking well with Bruno Fernandes, who missed a curling effort before forcing Alphonse Areola into a fine save.

However, it was the visitors who opened the scoring after a cautious start. Former United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka delivered a pinpoint ball to Mohammed Kudus on the left, who picked out Tomáš Souček for a simple tap-in at the far post.

The goal deflated both the United players and supporters, and the hosts struggled to mount any response before the break.

Second Half – Bowen Doubles Advantage as United Crumble

The second half began much like the first ended, with West Ham in the ascendancy. Kudus again caused problems, and his cutback was met by James Ward-Prowse, who fired directly at Altay Bayındır. Defensive injuries forced United into further disarray, as Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw were both replaced, but their backline remained disorganised.

Shortly before the hour, the Hammers made it 2-0. After Manuel Ugarte was dispossessed in midfield, Kudus surged into the area, and although his effort was blocked, Wan-Bissaka squared for Bowen to fire home at the back post. The goal effectively ended the contest, although United attempted a late rally.

Conclusion – Crisis Deepens for Amorim’s United

Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund both spurned opportunities, the latter denied by Areola when clean through, epitomising the lack of clinical edge that has plagued United’s campaign. West Ham, by contrast, were composed and professional, seeing out the closing stages with ease to claim their first win in nine matches.

United’s seventh straight league match without a win equals a club record and leaves them languishing in 16th place, while West Ham climb above them in the table, reinvigorating their push for a top-half finish
