West Ham vs Tottenham Report
Scorers: Bowen 28’; Odobert 15’
West Ham United extended their winless Premier League streak to eight matches after a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium, in a game where both sides had chances but ultimately lacked the cutting edge. While the point halts Spurs’ four-match losing run on the road in the league, neither side will be fully satisfied, with European ambitions and top-flight survival at stake.
First Half – Early Goals and Controversy
The opening exchanges saw West Ham fans calling for a penalty when Mohammed Kudus’ cross appeared to strike Yves Bissouma’s arm, but referee and VAR waved away the appeals. Moments later, Spurs struck the opener with an opportunistic move. Djed Spence’s long ball seemed speculative, but Mathys Tel chased it down and forced Max Kilman into an error. The Frenchman kept his composure to square for Wilson Odobert, who coolly slotted home for his first league goal in Tottenham colours.
West Ham reacted well to falling behind and had another penalty shout waved off after the ball struck Ben Davies’ hand. They didn’t have to wait long for their equaliser, as Jarrod Bowen got on the end of Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s perfectly-weighted through ball and beat Guglielmo Vicario from a tight angle to make it 1-1.
Richarlison had two decent opportunities to restore the lead before half-time, but failed to convert either – sending one effort over the bar and misjudging a cross-shot that flashed across goal.
Second Half – Missed Chances Define the Contest
After the break, West Ham looked the more threatening. Kudus remained the Hammers’ danger man, first setting up Bowen for a back-post volley that whistled just wide, then delivering a teasing cross that found Niclas Füllkrug – only for the German to head over from close range.
Tottenham, missing key men Son Heung-min, James Maddison, and Dominic Solanke due to injury concerns, offered little going forward. Their best chance came when Pape Matar Sarr launched a powerful drive from distance that narrowly cleared the crossbar, but there was little else to trouble Lukasz Fabiański in the home goal.
As full-time approached, Bowen had another chance to win it with a diving header that forced Vicario into a smart save at his near post. But the Hammers couldn’t find the breakthrough, settling for a fifth consecutive home H2H against Spurs without defeat.
What It Means
West Ham remain 17th, precariously close to the relegation zone, while Spurs sit just a point above them in 16th – both sides desperate for form at a critical point in the campaign. With European commitments looming for Tottenham and survival the main focus for the Hammers, both managers have work to do to salvage their seasons.
