Everton vs Ipswich Preview
- Everton to win
- Under 2.5 goals
Historic afternoon at Goodison Park
This weekend marks a sentimental occasion for Everton supporters as they witness the final 3pm kick-off at Goodison Park before the club’s move to a new waterfront stadium this summer. While recent home form hasn’t delivered much to celebrate – Everton are winless in five home games (D4, L1) – the gravity of the occasion may provide the extra motivation needed to sign off in style.
Notable stalemates in that run include results against title contenders Liverpool and Arsenal, but a win over relegated Ipswich will be expected. Doing so would complete a first league double over the Tractor Boys since 1994/95, following a 2-0 win at Portman Road back in October.
Ipswich’s long campaign winds down
Ipswich’s fate was sealed with a heavy 3-0 defeat to Newcastle last weekend, confirming their immediate return to the Championship. With little left to play for and a four-game winless run (D1, L3) entering this fixture, Kieran McKenna’s men will simply aim to salvage some pride in their final top-flight outings.
Defensive frailties have been their undoing again, conceding 11 goals in that four-match spell and drawing blanks in the last two. However, Ipswich fans might find comfort in the club’s historical record at Goodison, having won on each of their last two visits in 2000 and 2002.
Away form provides minor optimism
While Ipswich’s home record has been poor, they’ve collected two-thirds of their points this season on the road (14 of 21), with four of those coming in their last three away games. Still, the odds remain firmly stacked against them against a motivated Everton side eager to deliver in front of a packed Goodison one last time.
Players to watch
Iliman Ndiaye (Everton)
Everton’s leading scorer this season with seven league goals, Ndiaye netted in the reverse fixture and also scored Everton’s last home league goal against Arsenal.
Liam Delap (Ipswich)
With 12 league goals to his name, Delap remains a bright spot in a disappointing campaign, though his physical style is evident – he’s committed a joint-league-high 65 fouls this season.
Hot stat
Only Leicester (16) have failed to score in more Premier League matches than Everton (15) this season.
