Liverpool vs Tottenham Report

Scorers: Diaz 16’, Mac Allister 24’, Gakpo 34’, Salah 63’, Udogie (OG) 69’; Solanke 12’

Liverpool secured a record-equalling 20th top-flight title with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, completing a remarkable Premier League campaign under Arne Slot. Despite an early setback, the Reds roared back to claim the trophy with a dazzling attacking display, sealing a historic day in front of a raucous home crowd.

First Half – Early Scare, Rapid Response

With the Kop in full voice well before kick-off, Liverpool looked to finish the job quickly, but it was Tottenham who struck first. A well-worked James Maddison corner was headed across goal and into the net by former Red Dominic Solanke, briefly stunning the Anfield faithful. However, Liverpool wasted no time in responding, with Mohamed Salah slipping Dominik Szoboszlai in behind to square for Luis Díaz, who tapped home for his 100th Premier League appearance goal.

Relief soon turned to jubilation just minutes later, as Liverpool’s relentless pressing forced a turnover and Alexis Mac Allister lashed a superb finish into the bottom corner. Having wrestled back control, the Reds continued to turn the screw, and Cody Gakpo made it 3-1 before the break, capitalising on hesitant Spurs defending to find the bottom corner with precision.

Second Half – Ruthless Reds Seal the Title

Liverpool picked up where they left off after the restart, carving through Spurs’ backline with ease. Gakpo had a glorious chance to extend the lead but opted to square for Salah, missing the opportunity. However, the Egyptian would not be denied for long, snapping a ruthless finish past Vicario to end his six-match goal drought and put Liverpool four goals to the good.

Spurs’ misery was compounded when Destiny Udogie diverted a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross into his own net, Liverpool’s 15th goal against the Londoners across all competitions this season. With the Anfield crowd already in party mode, Liverpool comfortably saw out the final stages, lifting the league title for the first time in front of a full stadium of their supporters.

What It Means

Liverpool’s win not only secures a 20th league crown, drawing them level with Manchester United’s all-time record, but also makes Arne Slot just the sixth manager to win the Premier League in his debut season at a club. For Spurs, the defeat cements a miserable run of form on the road, with seven losses in their last nine away matches and a 16th consecutive winless trip to Anfield.

Key Facts

  • Liverpool have now scored 15 goals against Spurs this season across all competitions.
  • Mohamed Salah has directly contributed to 31 goals this Premier League campaign.
  • Liverpool’s 20th English top-flight title draws them level with Manchester United for the most in history.
