Wolves vs Leicester Report

Scorers: Cunha 33’, Larsen 56’, Gomes 85’

Wolverhampton Wanderers continued their sensational Premier League form by comfortably dispatching already-relegated Leicester City 3-0 at Molineux. Vítor Pereira’s side recorded a sixth consecutive top-flight victory for the first time in over half a century, while Leicester’s dismal season continued with a 10th defeat in 11 matches.

First Half – Persistent Pressure Pays Off

Coming into the clash with momentum firmly behind them, Wolves started brightly with Matheus Cunha and André both testing Leicester’s Mads Hermansen in the early stages. After a series of half-chances, the breakthrough finally arrived when Cunha latched onto a pass from Rayan Aït-Nouri and expertly guided his effort into the far corner to put Wolves ahead.

The hosts almost added a second before the break, as Cunha delivered an inviting ball into the box, but Jørgen Strand Larsen failed to capitalise from close range. Despite a triple substitution at half-time from Ruud van Nistelrooy, Leicester struggled to wrestle any control as Wolves went into the interval firmly on top.

Second Half – Wolves Turn the Screw

Wolves picked up where they left off after the restart, continuing to dominate proceedings. Cunha saw another strike saved and Strand Larsen missed a glorious rebound opportunity, but the duo would soon combine to devastating effect. A swift counter-attack culminated with Cunha slipping a pass into Strand Larsen, who kept his composure to slot past Hermansen and double Wolves’ lead.

Leicester were given a glimmer of hope when Jamie Vardy, in his farewell season at the club, won a penalty. However, the veteran striker was thwarted by José Sá, who dived to make an excellent save and preserve Wolves’ clean sheet. The final insult was delivered late on when Rodrigo Gomes tucked home after being played through by Cunha, completing a dominant afternoon for the hosts.

What It Means

This resounding win lifts Wolves to 13th in the Premier League table, capping an incredible turnaround under Pereira with 25 points earned from their last 11 games. Meanwhile, Leicester’s nightmare season continued, with the Foxes still rooted near the bottom and already condemned to Championship football next term.

Key Facts

  • Wolves have won six consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since 1971-72.
  • Matheus Cunha has now contributed to 12 goals (6 goals, 6 assists) in his last 11 PL appearances.
  • Leicester have lost 10 of their last 11 Premier League matches, confirming their relegation earlier this month.
