FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 34
Week 34 of the 2023/24 Premier League season is the most laid-back that Fantasy Premier League managers and teams competing in the league have been.
The week started on Tuesday, 22nd April, 2025 and will end on Thursday, May 1st, 2025. Then on Friday, 2nd May, 2025, week 35 begins, leaving FPL managers with little to no time for recovery and planning.
With matches coming thick and fast, FPL managers have to be on their toes. The following analysis will help managers plan ahead of week 35, while analysing week 34’s games and charting the best course of action.
Gameweek Analysis
Gameweek 34 is a blank one, as two of its fixtures have been added to the week 33 lineup, and the points from the FPL assets in those games will be added to managers’ week 33 hauls. With that being said, here are the fixture lineups for week 34:
- Manchester City v Aston Villa (added to week 33)
- Arsenal v Crystal Palace (added to week 33)
- Chelsea v Everton
- Southampton v Fulham
- Brighton and Hove Albion v West Ham United
- Newcastle United v Ipswich Town
- Wolverhampton Wanderers v Leicester City
- AFC Bournemouth v Manchester United
- Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur
- Nottingham Forest v Brentford
Below are our top three picks for matches to consider when selecting assets for your squad ahead of week 34.
Manchester City v Aston Villa
City have already defeated Aston Villa by two goals to one at the time of this FPL analysis, and the point hauls from that game added to week 33. This means that, although it is a match scheduled for week 34, assets from both sides will not make our top three for week 34.
However, this match is one of our top three match picks because of their upcoming week 35 fixtures: City take on Wolves, and Villa take on Fulham. Both teams are by no means pushovers, which implies an upcoming struggle for City and Villa.
What we can guarantee from evidence, however, is that their defences are not the best and assets from the defending champions and Villa will be useful for FPL managers ahead of week 35. You can choose to invest in their assets and keep them on the bench, or deploy a chip (Wildcard, Free Hit) to help them return to your squad ahead of week 35 if you already have them.
Players to target: Marcus Rashford (£6.7m), Marcos Asensio (£6.2m), Morgan Rogers (£5.7m), Donyell Malen (£5.3m), Omar Marmoush (£7.7m), Kevin De Bruyne (£9.4m).
Southampton v Fulham
The fight for European football versus the fight for relevance. Which one is tougher? Which fight will produce mentality monsters? This is a match with a very high ceiling, especially offensively. It looks easy to call, but Southampton have been decent in their last few matches. It could go either way with unpredictable points.
Players to target: Alex Iwobi (£5.5m), Ryan Sessegnon (£4.1m), Tyler Dibling (£4.3m), Mateus Fernandes (£5.0m).
Nottingham v Brentford
This is a very tasty fixture! Both are attacking sides, but Forest’s defence is almost as good as their attack, which means that Brentford players will work harder—a situation they tend to enjoy.
Players to target: Bryan Mbeumo (£7.9m), Yoanne Wissa (£6.5m), Anthony Elanga (£5.4m), Morgan Gibbs-White (£6.4m), Chris Wood (£6.9m).
Best FPL Players for Week 34
Matheus Cunha (£6.9m) — Wolverhampton Wanderers
Jørgen Strand Larsen (£5.4m) is the easier choice thanks to budget limitations, but Cunha is Wolves’ main man and the better pick. Compared to the Norwegian, the Brazilian is also a creative force. Both men can also play together, and if this is the case against Leicester, their week 34 opponents, there is a possibility of the former Atlético de Madrid man winning the Man of the Match title thanks to goals, assists and chances created.
Jacob Murphy (£5.2m) — Newcastle United
Murphy, Harvey Barnes (£6.0m) and Anthony Gordon (£7.4m) are always competing for who gets the nod alongside Alexander Isak whenever the Toons are in FPL action. Sometimes all three are recommended, leaving managers and analysts with the headache of choosing the right pair or the right one.
Murphy takes this round, however, thanks to their opponents being Ipswich Town, who have one of the worst defences in the league. His creative ability will come in clutch in this game. He could also get a goal, as well. Ipswich are also without key defender Leif Davis (£4.2m), leaving space for the 30-year-old Murphy to exploit.
Jordan Pickford (£5.1m) — Everton
With 10 clean sheets, Jordan Pickford is the joint-fifth most impressive goalkeeper in the league this season. He has also made the fifth most saves in the league with 100. Everton will be taking on Chelsea in week 34, and the Blues are not shy to take shots. This means that, of all the goalkeepers that will be in action this week, Pickford will be one of the busiest, if not THE busiest. This is a potential points haul that nobody would enjoy missing out on.
