Leicester vs Liverpool Report

Scorers: Alexander-Arnold 76’

Trent Alexander-Arnold marked his return from injury with a stunning late winner as Liverpool edged past Leicester City 1-0, moving within three points of clinching the Premier League title. While the Reds celebrated a vital win in their title charge, the result confirmed Leicester’s relegation after a valiant but ultimately fruitless display at the King Power Stadium.

Fast start, near misses and plenty of drama

Liverpool came flying out of the blocks, and it took just three minutes for Mohamed Salah to twice hit the woodwork in quick succession, underlining the visitors’ early dominance. However, Leicester weren’t passive participants and hit the frame themselves through Wilfred Ndidi, following impressive work by Stephy Mavididi down the left.

The opening exchanges set the tone for a chaotic first half, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Salah and Ibrahima Konaté all forcing Mads Hermansen into action. The Danish goalkeeper had an excellent evening, making crucial stops from Cody Gakpo and Konaté while Ndidi made a goal-line clearance to keep the score goalless. Despite Liverpool’s pressure, the Foxes hung on resiliently until the break.

One-way traffic and late heartbreak for Leicester

The second half resumed with more of the same, as Hermansen continued to keep Leicester in the game with fine saves from Szoboszlai and Kostas Tsimikas. The Reds struck the post twice more – first through Salah and then Diogo Jota – while Luis Díaz blazed over and Gakpo saw multiple attempts repelled.

Against the run of play, Leicester briefly thought they had snatched the lead when Conor Coady found the net, only for VAR to rule it out due to a foul on Alisson Becker by Patson Daka. It proved to be a crucial moment, as Liverpool regained control and eventually found the breakthrough.

With just minutes remaining, Alexander-Arnold smashed home a sensational strike, prompting wild celebrations among the travelling support. His goal secured a second consecutive win for Liverpool and ensured they now need just one more to mathematically clinch the title.

Reds on the cusp, Foxes going down

For Liverpool, the result brings them within touching distance of a second league title in five years, having now recorded 13 wins in their last 16 head-to-heads against Leicester. Arne Slot’s side are peaking at just the right time and look destined to reclaim their domestic crown.

In contrast, Leicester’s fate was sealed in defeat. Despite a spirited performance and another impressive goalkeeping display from Hermansen, the Foxes suffered their ninth consecutive home game without scoring and now face life back in the Championship next season.
