Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Report

Scorers: Murphy 14’, Guehi 38’ (OG), Barnes 45+2’, Schar 45+8’, Isak 58’

Newcastle United maintained their red-hot form and surged into third place in the Premier League with a commanding 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace at St James’ Park. The result extends the Magpies’ winning streak across all competitions to six matches and firmly cements their place inside the top five.

Magpies Take Flight Early

With momentum on their side and the incentive of climbing the Premier League table, Newcastle wasted no time asserting their dominance. Alexander Isak, the club’s top scorer, nearly gave the Magpies a dream start, but his powerful header skimmed the top of the crossbar.

Unrelenting in attack, the hosts opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Jacob Murphy. The in-form winger fired from an audacious angle into the roof of the net, netting his third goal in as many games and continuing his fine run.

Palace Capitulate Before Half-Time

Crystal Palace offered little in response, but were handed a lifeline midway through the half when Nick Pope clattered into Chris Richards inside the penalty area. A lengthy VAR review confirmed the spot-kick, but Eberechi Eze squandered the opportunity, with Pope making a comfortable save.

Palace’s misfortunes continued shortly after, as Marc Guéhi inadvertently turned a Harvey Barnes cross into his own net – the second time he’s done so against Newcastle this season. Barnes then added a goal of his own with a clinical low strike to make it 3-0 before the break, and Fabian Schär made it four with a glancing header from Murphy’s delivery as Newcastle finished the half in rampant fashion.

Isak Adds Fifth, Palace Left Reeling

Newcastle’s appetite for goals showed no signs of waning after the restart, and Alexander Isak finally got on the scoresheet just before the hour mark. Allowed time and space on the edge of the area, the Swedish forward curled a precise effort beyond Dean Henderson and into the bottom corner.

At 5-0, the contest was long decided, and Eddie Howe – still absent from the touchline – took the opportunity to rest some of his key players ahead of a crucial clash with Aston Villa. Newcastle managed the remainder of the match with ease, maintaining control and preserving energy without compromising on quality.

One-Sided Display Highlights Newcastle’s UCL Ambition

The result marks a sixth consecutive victory for Newcastle in all competitions and adds further weight to their UEFA Champions League aspirations. Now third in the table, the Magpies boast a five-point cushion inside the top five and continue to build momentum at a vital point in the campaign.

In contrast, Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side have now conceded five goals in back-to-back Premier League fixtures and are without a win in seven of their last eight away matches. With defensive concerns mounting, the Eagles will need a quick response to halt their alarming slide.
