Wolves vs West Ham Report
Scorers: Larsen 21’
Wolverhampton Wanderers took a significant step toward guaranteeing Premier League survival with a hard-fought 1-0 win over West Ham United at Molineux.
The result sees Wolves build a 12-point cushion over the relegation zone, while also continuing their impressive home record against the Hammers with a fifth win in their last seven league meetings in the Black Country.
High-Intensity Start as Both Sides Show Intent
Despite both teams entering the final stretch of the season with little to play for in terms of European qualification or relegation threat, the match opened with plenty of energy and attacking intent.
West Ham had the game’s first real chance when Jarrod Bowen burst down the right and delivered a dangerous low cross, but Evan Ferguson couldn’t adjust his feet in time to convert. That close call appeared to spark Wolves into life.
From a set-piece routine, Toti Gomes rose highest to meet Rayan Aït-Nouri’s outswinging delivery, but Alphonse Areola made a solid save to deny the hosts an opener.
Strand Larsen Strikes Again as Wolves Take Control
That early pressure paid off in the 28th minute, as Jørgen Strand Larsen, fresh from a pre-international break brace, found the net once more.
A loose ball fell kindly to him on the edge of the area, and his driven strike — aided by a deflection off former Wolves man Maximilian Kilman — nestled inside the near post to give Wolves a deserved lead.
Moments later, Wolves nearly doubled their advantage when Marshall Munetsi was teed up by Strand Larsen, but his thunderous effort crashed off the crossbar, with West Ham struggling to stay afloat.
Hammers Improve After Break But Fall Short
West Ham found more rhythm after Graham Potter made multiple half-time changes, but clear-cut chances remained scarce for the visitors. Wolves continued to threaten on the break, with Jean‐Ricner Bellegarde and Strand Larsen both squandering decent opportunities to extend the lead.
The Hammers saved their best chances for the dying moments. In the 75th minute, Niclas Füllkrug — making his return from injury — struck the crossbar with a powerful header from Lucas Paquetá’s cross. Moments later, Edson Álvarez scuffed a shot wide from the rebound.
But the golden opportunity came in the 89th minute when Füllkrug cleverly played in Tomáš Souček, who, with only José Sá to beat, could only fire into the side netting — a costly miss that summed up West Ham’s frustrating afternoon.
Wolves March Toward Safety, West Ham Left to Regroup
The full-time whistle confirmed a massive result for Wolves, who can now look up the table with renewed confidence.
With a 12-point buffer between themselves and the bottom three — none of whom have won a league match since February 1st — top-flight survival is all but secured.
For West Ham, the result is unlikely to have damaging consequences, with their own PL status not under serious threat. The final eight matches should give Potter valuable time to further implement his tactical philosophy ahead of a crucial summer of transition.
