Southampton vs Crystal Palace Preview

  • Palace to win
  • Over 2.5 goals

With their Premier League fate all but sealed, Southampton return to action against an in-form Crystal Palace side aiming to make history of their own.

Ivan Jurić’s side are staring down the barrel of relegation, and the manager himself has admitted that the drop is inevitable. Now the focus turns to delaying that fate and restoring some pride.

By contrast, Crystal Palace are flying. With no relegation fears and a top-half finish within reach, the Eagles are enjoying a productive and expressive spell of form that has seen them surge up the table and into the FA Cup semi-finals.

They travel to the south coast aiming for a record-breaking fifth straight away league win, and they could hardly have picked a better opponent to face.

Southampton: Trying to Salvage Pride in Final Stretch

The numbers tell the story for Southampton. Just one win in 12 Premier League games under Ivan Jurić (L11), including six home defeats out of six, has left them rock bottom and nine points from safety heading into the final nine matches.

Jurić stands on the verge of unwanted Premier League history. If Southampton lose here, he would join Mick McCarthy and Vincent Kompany as the only managers to lose their first seven home games in charge in the competition.

Worse still, the Saints would become just the third team in top-flight history to lose ten consecutive home league matches in a single season.

The manager has called for “fight and dignity” in the run-in, but whether this team can produce a response is debatable. Southampton have looked toothless at both ends of the pitch and now face an opponent that has already beaten them four times in a row in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace: Flying Under Glasner and Eyeing History

Oliver Glasner has quickly transformed Palace’s fortunes, and they arrive at St Mary’s in brilliant form.

Sunday’s 3-0 FA Cup win over Fulham sealed a semi-final place, extending their winning run across all competitions to five matches, and their record in 2025 stands at ten wins, one draw, and just two defeats.

Much of Palace’s recent success has come on the road, where they have put together an impressive run of six straight clean-sheet victories, including four Premier League games in a row, each by a 2-0 scoreline.

One more win would see them post five consecutive away league victories for the first time in club history.

With freedom from pressure, a settled system, and an effective balance of solidity and flair, Palace look set to continue their upward trajectory. Their recent record against Southampton only adds to that confidence.

Head-to-Head & Notable Stats

  • Southampton have lost six consecutive home games under Ivan Jurić
  • Saints would equal the Premier League record for seven straight home losses by a new manager
  • Southampton could become the third top-flight side to lose ten straight home league games in a single season
  • Crystal Palace have won their last four Premier League meetings with Southampton
  • Palace are on a run of six straight away wins, all without conceding
  • The Eagles have won their last four away league matches 2-0

Players to Watch

Mateus Fernandes (Southampton)

With seven yellow cards this season — five before half-time — Fernandes has struggled to maintain composure. He’s been booked four times since his last goal, including in the reverse fixture, highlighting his current lack of discipline in midfield.

Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace)

The centre-back has been a reliable threat from set-pieces, scoring three league goals this season, all away from home and all against teams currently below Palace in the table. His defensive leadership will also be key as Palace look to maintain their clean-sheet run.

Prediction: Palace to Pile on Southampton’s Misery

Southampton look increasingly devoid of belief and have shown little to suggest they can end their home losing streak. Crystal Palace, by contrast, are full of confidence, well-structured, and enjoying a historic run of away results.

Given the stark contrast in form, another controlled Palace performance looks likely. A fifth successive 2-0 away league win would be in keeping with their recent pattern, and another clean sheet seems well within reach against a Southampton side low on goals and ideas.

Predicted Score: Southampton 0-2 Crystal Palace

Southampton edge closer to mathematical relegation, while Palace continue to climb, with another milestone victory on the road.
