Leicester City vs Manchester United Report
Scorers: Højlund 28’, Garnacho 67’, Fernandes 90’
Manchester United cruised to a 3-0 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League, with full league debutant Ayden Heaven playing a key role before being forced off injured.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s struggling Foxes suffered a record seventh consecutive home defeat without scoring, leaving them nine points adrift of safety.
Slow Start Before United Take Control
The match began cautiously, with Jamie Vardy forcing André Onana into a save with a poked effort in the opening exchanges.
However, clear-cut chances were few and far between in the early stages. The game finally sparked into life when Christian Eriksen struck the far post with a first-time effort before Patson Daka raced through on goal at the other end, only to be denied by a superb last-ditch tackle from Heaven.
United eventually made the breakthrough in the 28th minute, with Bruno Fernandes once again proving instrumental.
The Portuguese playmaker expertly picked out Rasmus Højlund, who carried the ball forward before finishing clinically with his weaker foot to net his first goal of 2025.
Leicester showed glimpses of attacking intent before half-time, but United remained largely in control, with Manuel Ugarte making a crucial interception to deny Wilfred Ndidi, while Heaven blocked a fierce drive from Daka.
Heaven Forced Off as United Extend Lead
The second half began with a worrying moment for United, as 18-year-old Heaven, who had impressed on his full league debut, was stretchered off after picking up an injury.
With no centre-backs available on the bench, midfielder Toby Collyer was brought on as an emergency defender.
Despite the reshuffle, United remained dominant and thought they had doubled their lead when Alejandro Garnacho slotted home inside the box. However, his celebrations were cut short as the goal was ruled out for offside.
The Argentine wasn’t to be denied for long, though, as 10 minutes later, he fired a low snapshot past Mads Hermansen to score his first goal since November, effectively sealing the victory for the visitors.
With the points already secured, Fernandes added a third with a precise finish from the edge of the area, marking his third goal involvement of the night and eighth against Leicester this season.
Leicester’s Relegation Woes Deepen, United Climb the Table
This defeat marked Leicester’s fourth loss against United this season, a feat they have only endured once before against a single opponent.
A 13th defeat in 14 league matches leaves them 19th in the table, nine points from safety, as relegation looms ever closer.
For United, this result lifts them to 13th, with momentum beginning to shift in their favour following their midweek UEFA Europa League progression. With confidence returning to Ruben Amorim’s side, the Red Devils will look to build on this victory in the coming weeks.
