Brentford vs Everton Report

Scorers: Wissa 45+4’; O’Brien 77’

Brentford’s wait for a home Premier League win in 2025 continues as they let a first-half lead slip to draw 1-1 with Everton, extending their winless head-to-head run against the Toffees to six matches.

The result sees Thomas Frank’s side lose further ground in the battle for European qualification, while Everton’s impressive unbeaten run stretches to seven games, all but securing their top-flight status for another season.

Bees Start Brightly But Pickford Stands Firm

Brentford’s home form at the start of the season was among the best in the league, but their performances at the Gtech Community Stadium in 2025 have left much to be desired, with just one point picked up before today’s fixture.

Determined to end that poor run, the Bees started on the front foot, with Jordan Pickford called into action early to deny Keane Lewis-Potter and Yoane Wissa.

Everton, however, responded well to the early pressure. Jesper Lindstrøm’s dangerous header into the box nearly found Beto, while the striker later advanced on goal himself, forcing a solid save from Mark Flekken.

Despite those moments of promise for the visitors, Brentford continued to push forward, and their persistence was rewarded with the last action of the first half.

Wissa Strikes as Brentford Take the Lead

Brentford’s breakthrough came in stoppage time before half time, courtesy of Wissa. A long throw into the area from Kevin Schade caused chaos in the Everton defence, with the ball rebounding off the crossbar.

Wissa reacted quickest, nodding the ball into an empty net to give the Bees a deserved lead heading into the break.

With the momentum in their favour, Brentford looked set to take control in the second half. However, the game soon became a scrappy affair, with neither side able to produce moments of genuine attacking quality.

Brentford’s Joy Turns to Despair as O’Brien Rescues Everton

The second half saw few clear-cut chances, but Brentford thought they had doubled their advantage with just over 20 minutes remaining. Wissa latched onto a loose ball and fired home from close range, only for the linesman’s flag to cut short his celebrations.

Just eight minutes later, the Bees’ frustration turned to despair as Everton capitalised on their first real chance of the half.

A pinpoint cross from Vitaliy Mykolenko found Jake O’Brien unmarked in the box, and the young defender guided a superb diving header past Flekken to level the score. The equaliser sparked a tense final period, but neither side could find a winner as the contest ended in a stalemate.

Final Thoughts

  • Brentford: A disappointing result for Thomas Frank’s side, who dominated large spells of the game but failed to convert their control into three points. They remain in the mix for a European spot, but need to rediscover their home form quickly.
  • Everton: A resilient performance from the Toffees, who extended their unbeaten streak to seven games. With relegation fears now easing, David Moyes’ men can start looking upwards in the table rather than over their shoulders.

With Brentford missing another opportunity to stay in the European hunt and Everton continuing their solid form, both sides will now turn their attention to the crucial fixtures ahead in their respective campaigns.
