Wolves vs Fulham Report

Scorers: Gomes 18’; Sessegnon 1’, Muniz 47’

Fulham kept their European hopes alive with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, with goals on either side of half-time proving enough to take all three points.

The Cottagers remain firmly in the hunt for European qualification, while Wolves missed the opportunity to move eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Fast Start as Sessegnon Ends Goal Drought

After an uninspiring attacking display in their weekend defeat to Crystal Palace, Fulham wasted no time making amends, opening the scoring inside the first minute.

Andreas Pereira played a clever ball down the left flank to Ryan Sessegnon, who cut inside and curled a precise shot into the bottom corner, marking his first goal since October 2022.

The early setback sparked a determined response from Wolves, who grew into the game and deservedly found an equaliser after sustained pressure.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s cross into the box initially resulted in a mishit attempt from Nélson Semedo, but the loose ball fell kindly for João Gomes, who volleyed emphatically past a helpless Bernd Leno.

End-to-End First Half

Fulham nearly restored their advantage before the break, as Pereira delivered a floated pass to Adama Traoré, but the winger’s volley was straight at José Sá.

Moments later, Rodrigo Muniz found himself in a promising position, only for Santiago Bueno to make a crucial block and keep the score level at half-time.

Muniz Strikes Seconds After Restart

Wolves’ defensive frailties were exposed once again immediately after the restart, as Fulham capitalised on another lapse in concentration.

Just 62 seconds into the second half, Traoré played a well-timed through ball to Muniz, who executed a delicate chip over the onrushing Sá, restoring the visitors’ lead.

Wolves Fail to Break Down Stubborn Fulham Defence

Chasing the game, Wolves manager Vítor Pereira introduced Jørgen Strand Larsen in an attempt to provide a focal point up front, having initially opted to start without a recognised striker.

However, despite enjoying long spells of possession, the hosts struggled to create clear-cut chances against Fulham’s disciplined defensive setup.

The Cottagers had an opportunity to put the game beyond doubt on the counter-attack when Raúl Jiménez was played through one-on-one against his former club, but Sá stood tall to deny the Mexican striker, ensuring his goalless run against Wolves continued.

What This Means for Both Teams

  • Fulham: The Cottagers climb to ninth in the Premier League table and remain firmly in contention for European qualification, extending their impressive away form to just one defeat in 10 matches.
  • Wolves: A frustrating afternoon saw them fall short in front of goal, with star forward Matheus Cunha neutralised for large spells. Pereira also suffered his first head-to-head defeat against managerial compatriot Marco Silva.

Final Thoughts

Fulham’s ability to capitalise on Wolves’ defensive lapses and hold firm under pressure was the difference in this encounter.

With their European push gaining momentum, Marco Silva’s men will be full of confidence heading into the final stretch of the season. Meanwhile, Wolves will need to rediscover their attacking fluidity quickly to avoid being dragged further into the relegation battle.
