Brighton vs Bournemouth Preview

  • Over 2.5 goals

Brighton head into their second south coast derby in four days full of confidence after thrashing Southampton 4-0 on Saturday, keeping themselves firmly in the hunt for European qualification.

That victory took them to 40 points, a mark they have only reached quicker once before in the Premier League (2022/23), and also extended their winning streak across all competitions to three since their 7-0 humiliation against Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

However, much of Brighton’s recent success has come on the road, as they have won just one of their last six home league games (D3, L2).

They will take comfort in their strong home record against Bournemouth, though, having won the last three H2Hs at the Amex Stadium. Furthermore, they remain unbeaten when hosting sides currently above them in the league this season (W2, D2).

For Bournemouth, Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves was a setback in their own European push. The match turned on its head after the Cherries received their first red card of the season, and a second defeat in three league outings (W1) means their cushion over Brighton has now shrunk to just three points.

Notably, the last time they suffered back-to-back league defeats was when Brighton beat them in November.

Despite that, Bournemouth have been exceptional on the road, going unbeaten in their last seven away league games (W5, D2).

They netted an impressive 20 goals across that run and, despite failing to score in two of their last three visits to the Amex, have found the net in eight of their last ten trips to Brighton (W2, D4, L4).

Key Stats

  • Brighton have won their last three home league meetings with Bournemouth.
  • The Seagulls have only won one of their last six home league games (D3, L2).
  • Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League away games (W5, D2).
  • The Cherries have scored in eight of their last ten visits to the Amex.

Brighton: Can They Extend Their Winning Streak?

Brighton’s response to their embarrassing 7-0 loss at Nottingham Forest has been excellent, with three straight wins in all competitions.

Their dominant performance against Southampton showed their attacking quality, and manager Fabian Hürzeler will expect more of the same against another south-coast rival.

Why Brighton Fans Can Be Hopeful

  • Strong H2H home record vs Bournemouth (three straight wins).
  • Unbeaten at home against teams above them in the table this season (W2, D2).
  • João Pedro in great form, scoring Brighton’s first goal in their last five league matches.

Recent Form (Last Five Matches in All Competitions)

  • Premier League: Brighton 4-0 Southampton – Win
  • Premier League: Chelsea 0-3 Brighton – Win
  • FA Cup: Brighton 2-1 West Brom – Win
  • Premier League: Nottingham Forest 7-0 Brighton – Loss
  • Premier League: Crystal Palace 1-1 Brighton – Draw

Key Player: João Pedro (Forward)

  • Scored and assisted against Southampton.
  • Has scored Brighton’s first goal in each of his last five Premier League matches.
  • Netted against Bournemouth in the reverse fixture.

Bournemouth: Can They Bounce Back from Wolves Defeat?

Bournemouth’s 1-0 loss to Wolves was a blow, but their away form has been outstanding. Andoni Iraola’s men haven’t lost on their travels since early December, and they’ll be confident of extending that streak here.

Why Bournemouth Fans Can Be Hopeful

  • Unbeaten in seven consecutive away league matches (W5, D2).
  • Scored 20 goals across that unbeaten away run.
  • Have found the net in eight of their last ten visits to Brighton.

Recent Form (Last Five Matches in All Competitions)

  • Premier League: Wolves 1-0 Bournemouth – Loss
  • Premier League: Bournemouth 3-1 Southampton – Win
  • Premier League: Bournemouth 0-1 Fulham – Loss
  • FA Cup: Everton 1-1 Bournemouth (Bournemouth won on penalties) – Win
  • Premier League: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Bournemouth – Draw

Key Player: Marcus Tavernier (Midfielder)

  • Registered five Premier League assists this season.
  • All of his assists have contributed to Bournemouth avoiding defeat (W4, D1).
  • A key playmaker in Bournemouth’s attacking build-up.

Tactical Insights

Brighton’s Approach

  • Play on the front foot with high pressing.
  • João Pedro and Mitoma to lead the attack.
  • Control midfield with quick transitions and width.

Bournemouth’s Approach

  • Absorb pressure and hit on the counter-attack.
  • Use Tavernier’s creativity to find Semenyo and Ouattara.
  • Defensive discipline needed to maintain their strong away form.

Match Prediction

Both sides are in the race for European football and will be eager to avoid dropping points. Brighton’s recent form is excellent, but Bournemouth’s away record is equally impressive. This should be a tightly contested game, with both teams looking to play attacking football.

Final Score Prediction: Brighton 2-2 Bournemouth

  • João Pedro to score early for Brighton.
  • Bournemouth’s counter-attacking threat to cause problems.
  • A high-intensity match with both sides settling for a point.
