Tottenham vs Leicester Report
Scorers: Richarlison 30’; Vardy 46, El Khannouss 50’
Leicester City pulled off a stunning second-half comeback to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1, heaping more misery on under-pressure Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.
The result marks Leicester’s first time taking points off Tottenham twice in a Premier League (PL) season since their 2015/16 title-winning campaign.
First Half: Spurs Dominate but Can’t Capitalise
Tottenham started brightly, with Pedro Porro and Son Heung-min causing early problems for Leicester’s defence. Goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk was the standout performer, denying Porro with a sharp save and making a brilliant stop to keep out Son’s curling effort.
However, a nervy moment nearly undid his hard work when Son’s misdirected cross struck the crossbar.
The hosts finally broke through in the 37th minute. Porro delivered a pinpoint cross to Richarlison, who rose unchallenged to head home his first PL goal of the season.
Leicester offered little offensively in the first half, heading into the break with only defensive resolve keeping them in the game.
Second Half: Leicester’s Inspired Comeback
Whatever Ruud van Nistelrooy said during halftime worked wonders. Within a minute of the restart, Jamie Vardy latched onto Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s inviting cross, coolly slotting home to level the score.
Tottenham’s confidence visibly wavered, and their midfield woes were exposed when Bilal El Khannouss capitalised on a sloppy mistake, curling a low strike past Guglielmo Vicario to put Leicester ahead in the 53rd minute.
Spurs pushed to respond, and Porro came close when his free-kick deflected off Vardy and onto the crossbar.
However, that was as close as the home side came, as Leicester expertly slowed the game down, frustrating the hosts and neutralising their attacking threats.
What It Means
- Leicester City: The victory ends a seven-match PL losing streak and lifts the Foxes out of the relegation zone. Van Nistelrooy’s side showed resilience and tactical discipline, giving their survival hopes a significant boost.
- Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs’ dismal form continues, with just one win in their last 10 league matches. Postecoglou is under increasing scrutiny as his team’s defensive frailties and lack of cohesion persist.
