FPL Top Picks for Gameweek 22
It was a week of smiles for many Fantasy Premier League managers thanks to the amazing returns that some of the usual suspects produced.
Each match played out more or less as predicted and the majority of the most popular assets had good showings that improved the overall points haul of various managers across the game. It is now time to consolidate those efforts and push for more.
It starts with understanding the upcoming gameweek and accurately predicting the best assets to own ahead of the games. Our FPL weekly guide, complete with the best asset picks, is here once again to help in this regard!
Gameweek Analysis
This week, the games that interest our in-house FPL experts are Brentford vs Liverpool and Everton vs Tottenham. Week 22 also features Arsenal taking on Aston Villa and, while this is a game that many will look to for assets, our analysts would rather look elsewhere.
One of the reasons for Arsenal vs Aston Villa being low on our list of games to pick assets from is that both teams are struggling in front of goal at the moment. With Arsenal it has come to be expected, as their biggest creator, Bukayo Saka, continues to be sidelined with an injury. With Villa, however, it is a bit of a surprise, especially with the run of form they enjoyed in 2024.
Arsenal’s defence are still top rated in the league but right now, they cannot guarantee any clean sheets, which makes other assets like AFC Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz and Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina more attractive.
The first of our games is Brentford vs Liverpool and it is obvious to everyone and their mother why this game is on the list. Both teams are relentless attackers, equipped with multiple goalscoring and chance creation assets that have made many managers happy in the 2024/25 season so far.
Assets like Yoanne Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, Mikel Damsgaard, Christian Norgaard, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota will all be involved in this match. Basically, take your pick of the bunch.
One thing that could help with your decision on which assets and how many of them you select is to see the FDR rating for this game, which is usually based on past outcomes between these two.
Everton vs Spurs is the next game on our list and this is because of the new manager bounce. David Moyes is back at his favourite club and, despite losing, they looked good in their last outing against Villa. The topsy-turvy Spurs will be travelling for this game, which means that it is Moyes’ first home game since returning to the club. The usual Spurs attacking assets and Jordan Pickford from Everton should be considered as you prepare your week 22 squad.
Best FPL Players for Week 22
Anthony Elanga (£5.3m) – Nottingham Forest
Anthony Elanga has been one of Forest’s most consistent performers this season and he makes our top three picks list because of his potential as a points-winning differential option. At £5.3m, the young Swede is one of the cheaper midfielders with potential in the game.
His stats are also good enough to guarantee him a place on many lists. Forest will be facing Southampton in week 22 which gives him an opportunity to finally get back among the goals, seeing that he is one of the Tricky Trees’ most potent attacking threats.
Anthony Gordon (£7.6m) – Newcastle United
You probably already have Alexander Isak. If you do not, well, go and get him. However, you can get Anthony Gordon in case your in-game transfer funds are not enough, as the Englishman is the second most potent attacker at Newcastle United behind the Sweden international striker.
Their opponents for week 22, Bournemouth, are no pushovers, However, the Cherries have shown a tendency to fast breaks, which Newcastle are good at (they are one of the best in the league). Gordon, alongside Isak, are always at the forefront of these attacks, supported by the likes of Jacob Murphy. So, if you do not have the funds for Isak in week 22, get Gordon on your team.
Alex Iwobi (£5.9m) – Fulham
Alex Iwobi has gone from being a differential option to being a near-premium midfielder. His price tag is still fair compared to the likes of Phil Foden, James Maddison, Bruno Fernandes and others who regularly get involved in their teams’ attacks, either starting or finishing them off. However, he is also more expensive than the likes of Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo, Jacob Murphy and Elanga, who has been mentioned earlier.
So, why choose him ahead of these guys? The reason is that he has the better shot conversion stats than all of them. He does not take as many shots as they do but when he does, he is more likely than others to get a goal. Fulham face Leicester City in week 22.
