Leicester vs Crystal Palace Report
Scorers: Mateta 52’, Guehi 78’
Crystal Palace matched a club record of six unbeaten away games in the Premier League, securing a 2-0 victory over struggling Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
The result handed Leicester their sixth consecutive defeat, deepening their woes in a difficult campaign.
First Half: Lacklustre Start with Missed Opportunities
The opening half hour was devoid of genuine quality, with both teams struggling to fashion meaningful chances. Leicester appeared marginally more threatening, with Jamie Vardy’s movement causing problems for Palace’s backline.
The veteran striker had a one-on-one opportunity with Dean Henderson, but his effort was saved. While flagged offside initially, replays suggested a VAR review could have awarded the goal had Vardy converted.
Crystal Palace’s best chance of the half fell to Jean-Philippe Mateta after Victor Kristiansen’s clearance ricocheted into his path. However, the Frenchman squandered the opportunity, slashing his shot over the bar from close range.
Second Half: Palace Take Control
Oliver Glasner’s halftime adjustments paid immediate dividends as Palace broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half.
Ismaïla Sarr intercepted the ball in midfield and surged forward before delivering a perfectly-weighted pass to Mateta, who poked the ball past Jakub Stolarczyk and into the net. It was Palace’s first shot on target, but it sparked a newfound confidence in their play.
The visitors nearly doubled their lead shortly after, as Sarr provided another incisive through ball, this time to Tyrick Mitchell. Despite an excellent first touch, Mitchell’s effort was thwarted by Stolarczyk from a tight angle.
Leicester briefly responded, with Boubakary Soumaré rattling the crossbar from the edge of the area, but the Foxes failed to build on the momentum.
Late Blow: Guéhi Seals the Win
As fog descended over the King Power Stadium, so did Leicester’s sense of impending defeat. With just over ten minutes remaining, Marc Guéhi flicked home an Eberechi Eze free-kick, applying a delicate finish to double Palace’s advantage and put the game beyond doubt.
What’s Next?
Crystal Palace’s victory bolsters their momentum as they continue to rise in the table, while Leicester face mounting pressure to reverse their form and avoid a deepening crisis.
The Foxes must regroup quickly to stave off relegation concerns, with time running out to turn their season around.
