Brentford vs Manchester City Report

Scorers: Wissa 82’, Norgaard 90+2’; Foden 66’, 78’

Brentford staged a sensational late comeback to draw 2-2 with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Despite trailing by two goals late on, Thomas Frank’s side rallied to earn a deserved point, extending their impressive home record and highlighting City’s continued struggles on the road.

First Half: Bees Swarm Early, City Struggle

Brentford made their intentions clear from the outset, with Mads Roerslev marauding down the right flank to create an early opportunity for Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, though the chance went begging.

The duo continued to torment City’s defence, with Mbeumo testing Stefan Ortega with a powerful effort.

City, fresh from their 8-0 demolition of Salford City in the FA Cup, took time to settle. Erling Haaland had their best chance of the half, meeting Kevin De Bruyne’s cross at the back post only to head into the side netting.

The Bees, however, remained on the front foot, with Keane Lewis-Potter squandering a golden opportunity by opting to pass instead of shoot when through on goal.

Second Half: City Strike, but Brentford Fight Back

Guardiola’s side returned with renewed intensity, led by the lively Savinho. The Brazilian struck the woodwork with a brilliant solo effort before missing another chance just wide of the post.

City’s persistence paid off in the 66th minute when Savinho found De Bruyne, whose perfect cross was met by Phil Foden to open the scoring.

Brentford almost responded immediately as Mbeumo rounded Ortega, only for Nathan Aké to produce a heroic goal-line block to deny Wissa.

Moments later, City doubled their lead on the counter-attack. Savinho’s initial effort was saved, but Foden pounced on the rebound to score his second of the night.

Late Drama: Brentford’s Stunning Comeback

With the game seemingly out of reach, Brentford reignited their fightback in the 82nd minute. Roerslev delivered a pinpoint cross to an unmarked Wissa, who calmly slotted home to reduce the deficit.

The equaliser came in stoppage time when Christian Nørgaard was left unchallenged in the box to head in and send the home crowd into raptures.

City were left to rue their defensive lapses, with Brentford snapping a three-match losing streak in this fixture and showcasing their resilience against one of the league’s top sides.

What’s Next?

Brentford will look to build on this spirited performance as they continue their impressive campaign. Manchester City, meanwhile, must address their road form as they aim to stay in the title race.
