Fulham vs Ipswich Report
Scorers: Jimenez 69’ (P), 90+1’ (P); Szmodics 38’, Delap 71’ (P)
Fulham extended their unbeaten run to eight Premier League matches with a thrilling 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town at Craven Cottage.
Twice coming from behind, Marco Silva’s side denied the Tractor Boys their first back-to-back top-flight wins since 2002, while Ipswich remain rooted in the relegation zone despite a spirited performance.
Cottagers Dominate Early but Pay for Missed Chances
Buoyed by an unbeaten streak, Fulham controlled the early proceedings, dominating possession and pinning Ipswich deep into their half. However, turning that dominance into clear-cut chances proved challenging.
Christian Walton was forced into an excellent save on 20 minutes, denying Raúl Jiménez’s powerful header, while Harry Wilson saw his surging run halted by a controversial challenge from Leif Davis, which only resulted in a yellow card.
Despite their control, Fulham were stunned just before halftime. Nathan Broadhead’s cross caused chaos in the Fulham box, with Antonee Robinson’s header against his own bar falling to Sammie Szmodics.
The Ipswich midfielder capitalised on Calvin Bassey’s poor clearance, firing home via a deflection for his fourth away goal of the season.
Fulham Respond but Ipswich Strike Back Immediately
Seeking a spark, Marco Silva introduced Emile Smith Rowe, Andreas Pereira, and Rodrigo Muniz early in the second half. It was Wilson, however, who provided the impetus for Fulham’s equaliser.
The Welsh winger won a penalty after being brought down by Sam Morsy in the box—a decision awarded only after a VAR review. Jiménez stepped up confidently to convert from the spot, levelling the score at 1-1.
But the hosts’ joy was short-lived. Just 21 seconds after the restart, Timothy Castagne’s clumsy challenge on Liam Delap gifted Ipswich a penalty of their own.
Delap, the visitors’ top scorer, dispatched the spot-kick emphatically, restoring Ipswich’s lead and sparking celebrations in the away section.
Late Drama Ensures the Spoils Are Shared
Facing another uphill battle, Fulham pressed relentlessly. Jiménez missed a golden chance to equalise, heading wide from a set-piece, while Jack Clarke’s late effort for Ipswich struck the post. Just as time seemed to be running out for the Cottagers, a dramatic twist unfolded.
Davis clipped Jiménez inside the area, awarding Fulham their second penalty of the match. The Mexican striker kept his nerve once more, drilling his spot-kick past Walton to rescue a point for the home side.
What’s Next?
Fulham will look to build on their strong form as they aim to climb further up the table, buoyed by their unbeaten streak.
Ipswich, despite signs of improvement, must start converting promising performances into wins to escape the drop zone. The Tractor Boys face a critical period ahead as they fight for Premier League survival.
