Chelsea vs Fulham Report

Scorers: Palmer 16’; Wilson 82’, Muniz 90+5’

A stoppage-time strike from Rodrigo Muniz sealed a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory for Fulham over Chelsea, ending the Blues’ 12-game unbeaten streak across all competitions and delivering a significant blow to their Premier League title aspirations.

First Half: Palmer’s Magic Breaks the Deadlock

Chelsea entered the contest aiming to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool, and it was their talisman Cole Palmer who lit up Stamford Bridge in the 15th minute.

Picking up the ball in midfield, Palmer weaved past two defenders before curling a sublime effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. The goal marked his 12th league strike of the season, continuing a remarkable individual campaign.

Fulham responded with resilience, as Raúl Jiménez tested Robert Sánchez with a speculative long-range effort and Calvin Bassey forced another save from the Chelsea keeper.

The hosts nearly doubled their advantage before halftime when Marc Cucurella’s fierce shot was brilliantly tipped away by Bernd Leno, ensuring Fulham entered the break just one goal behind.

Second Half: Fulham’s Persistence Pays Off

Chelsea began the second half with intent, with Enzo Fernández seeing his goal-bound strike pushed wide by a diving Leno. Moments later, Levi Colwill thought he had doubled the lead, only for VAR to rule his goal offside.

Despite Chelsea’s dominance, Fulham gradually grew into the game, with Alex Iwobi narrowly missing the target and Antonee Robinson testing Sánchez with a close-range effort.

Fulham’s perseverance was rewarded in the 86th minute when Robinson’s pinpoint cross found Rodrigo Muniz, whose header set up Harry Wilson for a simple nod over the line, leveling the scores at 1-1.

The equaliser injected belief into Marco Silva’s side, and the visitors capitalized on Chelsea’s defensive lapses in stoppage time. Breaking swiftly on the counter, Muniz calmly slotted past Sánchez to secure Fulham’s first win at Stamford Bridge in 45 years.

What This Means

  • Chelsea: The Blues remain second in the Premier League but fall further behind Liverpool, missing a golden opportunity to close the gap. Enzo Maresca’s post-match comments suggest growing frustration as his side struggles to maintain consistency in high-pressure games.
  • Fulham: A historic victory lifts Fulham to 7th place, just one point off the European qualification spots. Marco Silva’s men continue to impress in a campaign that could see them challenge for a place in continental competitions.

Next Fixtures

  • Chelsea: Travel to Brighton for another crucial league encounter as they look to bounce back.
  • Fulham: Host struggling Southampton, aiming to extend their unbeaten run and climb further up the table.

Fulham’s stunning victory sends shockwaves through the Premier League, while Chelsea will need to regroup quickly to avoid losing further ground in the title race.
