Leicester vs Wolves Report
Scorers: Guedes 19’, Gomes 36’, Cunha 44’
Wolverhampton Wanderers began the Vítor Pereira era in emphatic style, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
The result not only marked Wolves’ first away win against the Foxes since 2007 but also delivered a significant boost to their survival hopes in a high-stakes relegation clash.
First Half: Wolves Capitalise on Leicester’s Mistakes
Leicester began brightly, nearly taking an early lead when Jamie Vardy latched onto a through ball from Bilal El Khannouss, only for José Sá to block his attempted chip.
Wolves, however, grew into the game and opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a moment of brilliance from Gonçalo Guedes.
Nélson Semedo’s lofted ball forward caught the Leicester defence napping, and Guedes converted acrobatically to stun the home crowd.
Leicester’s defensive frailties were exposed again just 10 minutes later. James Justin’s inexplicable decision to let the ball run through allowed Rodrigo Gomes to capitalise with a scuffed finish that wrong-footed Danny Ward and trickled into the net.
Things went from bad to worse for Leicester before HT, as Matheus Cunha capped off a dominant Wolves half by firing in off the post after a swift counterattack.
Second Half: Leicester Fail to Respond
Despite trailing by three goals, Leicester’s response after the interval was underwhelming. Vardy, a rare bright spark for the Foxes, found himself one-on-one with Sá once more but could only find the side netting after rounding the goalkeeper.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s decision not to call upon Facundo Buonanotte, the club’s second-top scorer, puzzled many, as Leicester’s attacking play lacked potency throughout the second half.
Wolves could have added a fourth late on, but João Gomes missed a gilt-edged opportunity, heading wide from six yards with the goal at his mercy.
Fortunately for Wolves, the miss had no bearing on the outcome as they comfortably saw out their most comprehensive league win of the season.
